I’m making myself fat and unhealthy

I’m a SAHM to a 2 year old and I don’t know what’s got into me these last few months but I’ve become so lazy. I’m constantly tired, all I want to do is eat, I’m always hungry. I’ve got all the stuff in to make tasty salads but instead have just eaten a bag of crisps, half a bag of cookies, a can of coke, and some Reese’s chocolates whilst DD naps.
DD started nursery 2 weeks ago, two mornings a week, so I could find a class/gym/walk but all I’ve done on those days is housework/lists of how to get healthy/look on my phone. How the hell do I break this cycle? Today I’ve been in tears as I just can’t get my act together and I’ve wasted the morning again. None of my clothes fit either but I don’t want to leave the house in my joggers as I look such a mess. I sound depressed but I’ve nothing to be depressed about!

Surgery, in any instance, should be the last resort.

The reason why you're "constantly hungry" is likely because your body is telling you in the only way that it knows how that there is a deficiency; because of this deficiency, it's making you constantly tired so this could be a range of things, Vitamin D is in short supply during Winter, iron is a common nutrient deficiency amongst new mothers and perimenopausal women and then there's probably a motivational deficiency too... We feel like crap so we make crap food choices that make us feel even worse and whilst we have the tasty salad in the house... well, it isn't going to make us feel any better if we eat it, will it? Well, it probably, maybe, will.

I think your best bet is to pay £40-80 to get your bloods done. I use a company called Thriva; you prick your finger, fill a vial and post it back to them! I always have to pay a bit extra for a phlebotomist to come out and take my blood because it coagulates too quickly for them to be able to test but I get a full nutritional breakdown (do it on an empty stomach for best results) and I have my hormones checked too. Hormones play a crucial role in energy levels and how efficiently your body digests food.

Nothing wrong with a can of coke but if it's regular, opt for sugar-free or no added sugar variants (do this anyway, it'll help you lose weight really quickly - most people don't recognise the hidden calories in what we drink, the sauces we have on our meal, etc.)

Whilst your in the mind of losing weight (and let's be real, really you just want to slim down, the weight isn't a problem, it's looking at ourselves and thinking "I'm fat" that's the problem), you'd be better of just finishing off all your goodies and not buying anymore, opt for healthier snacks instead.

Start logging your food, and I mean EVERYTHING you eat on apps like Nutracheck (they have a UK database but always double check, weigh your food to get the most accurate data) and get an understanding of where you are in terms of your diet right now. You'll likely be in a caloric surplus compared to energy expenditure and it's important you understand how far you have to shift your eating habits to achieve MAINTENANCE calories; these are the number of calories you need to maintain weight. Only once we've achieved this and cemented it into habit should we consider eating in a calorie deficit because what will happen is, if you don't achieve the new habit first then when you hit your weight loss goal, you'll go back to eating normally and all that time and effort will be a complete waste as you come back to Mumsnet this time next year with the same problem. This is the most common reason why people regain weight after weight loss; they haven't formed the foundations they need to build a better self from in the first place and eventually, everything they do build falls apart eventually.

Set up the foundations first to achieve lifelong results, everything else will be temporary otherwise.
