To wish the government would just ban disposable vapes already?

I know I know they can't just ban something overnight. I just feeling frustrated by this horrible vaping addiction I have. Started vaping to give up smoking. Don't miss smoking at all. I get through one vape every 2 or 3 days and my lungs hurt a million times more than when I smoked. I just can't stop. I've tried so many times but they're just there on the counter of every shop staring at me (if anyone has any quit vaping resources please do send!!). Did any other vapers on her get excited when they saw it might be banned? I'll be so disappointed if the ban doesn't go through. Early morning rant from a stressed lone parent trying to give up vaping whilst also bleeding from vagina. And breathe...

Agree entirely - they are a complete scourge on our local secondary school kids, and the litter is horrendous.

The tin foil hat wearer in me suspects it is a Chinese government plot, as they are all made in China.

Why is Rishi dicking about removing green targets when he could do something useful like ban disposable vapes?

shockeditellyou · 26/09/2023 07:28

And Aus/NZ have managed some really harsh restrictions, so it can be done.

ReviewingTheSituation · 26/09/2023 07:32

Agree 100%. But you'd still be able to buy refillable vapes, so it wouldn't be a clear pathway to quitting.

I can't fathom who on earth thought disposable vapes were a good idea environmentally- both the plastic and the batteries. There shouldn't be a new kind of Single use anything where there is already a multi-use option. If we all went back to single use plastic bags we'd think the world had gone mad, and it's the same principle.

leighh88 · 26/09/2023 07:32

Even if they were banned you could still get them (just not on display so good for you) the ones i get are illegal here anyway, there under the counter so have to know where to ask for them.

TibetanTerrah · 26/09/2023 07:33

I'm confused as to why your lungs hurt more? I vape a lot (not disposable although I've had them) and my lungs don't hurt Confused

Disposable vapes cost a fortune. Elf bars are £4-£5 a time, so they're as pricey as smoking if you use them like a (ex) smoker. Can you try moving onto a refillable one? Then you can drop down the nicotine content gradually and wean yourself off them?

I have a Geekvape Wenax K1 which is easy to fill and the pods last me a long time.

Not everyone is the same.

UK always late to the party.

Well obviously, but if your lungs hurt 'a million times more' than when you smoked, it might be something other than vaping causing it and you might want to get checked out!

You could try? This is exactly what I did. I went from 12mg to zero. I keep the zero one for nights out.

Rishi has proved he doesn't give a rats ass about the environment so why should he care about banning disposable vapes?

It's being discussed at the moment moreso because of the scarily high %s of children using them.

The conservatives accepted 350k from a vape firm recently …. expect it might be a long while before it’s banned

This

I didn't smoke much, three a day maybe when stressed

I now absolutely love vaping and do it far more than I smoked, but my lungs don't hurt. Please see a doctor.

I don't want disposables banned btw! Stocked up in case they are though I do want to quit vaping.

AbbeyGailsParty · 26/09/2023 08:28

Try hypnotherapy.
And please get your lungs checked, an X-ray at least.

Depressing!

OP, this isn’t going to happen in a hurry.

If you are actually experiencing lung pain, I think you need to be more proactive and find practical ways to cut down/quit rather than wait for any government to implement a plan.

Mrsttcno1 · 26/09/2023 08:57

Hi OP, I also used to use disposable vapes and quit at the start of the year. Literally just decided I was done with them, told DH as well as my friends I was quitting so that I had some accountability, and stopped buying them. I bought a new water bottle with a straw because I had read online that the hardest part about quitting is the hand to mouth motion, so I swapped the vape for a straw and my water. Never bought one or had one since! The first 2 weeks were the hardest and I wanted to go buy one constantly but literally once those first 2 weeks were done I’ve been fine, glad to see the back of them!

My friend decided to quit a month after me after I said how much better I felt in myself, she didn’t want to even attempt cold turkey so she bought one of the refillable vapes and bought a lower nicotine liquid than your typical vape, she reduces the % of the liquid every week until week 4 when it was a nicotine free liquid. She then bought a water bottle and chucked the vape away, she’s also now been off them for 6 months!

TwentyTwenty20 · 26/09/2023 08:57

I've had an x-ray, ecg, the works literally last month and lungs and heart were absolutely fine. Doctor said they see it all the time with vaping, lungs look normal but some people are very sensitive to the chemicals.

I've quit again today, that's why I'm posting, just after moral support from those who have also quit or are in the process.

Put aside the money you would spend and use it to buy something lovely for yourself.

Mrsttcno1 · 26/09/2023 09:04

Honestly @TwentyTwenty20 force yourself through the first 2 weeks. It genuinely does get so much easier after that.

Try and identify any triggers and avoid those for at least the first month as well. Like for me, I found that when I’d been drinking I really wanted a vape, and as lots of my friends vaped I also just didn’t go out with them in general for the first few weeks, keeping myself out of temptations way!

This is a really good idea. Looking at the amount you’re spending on them is a good way to make yourself quit!

My BIL vapes and has been thinking about quitting recently. He sat and added it up and he’s spending £30 a week on vapes, thats over £1500 a year! Hence he now wants to quit🤣 it doesn’t seem much when its just £6 here £12 there but it really does add up

StewedFruit · 26/09/2023 09:31

I'm the same, wish they would be banned soon. I used to smoke a couple a day then moved to vaping and find it way more addictive. I've moved to the elfa refillables which eases my environmental conscience slightly but have no idea how I'm going to stop!! It's a crutch, a reward, a treat blah blah blah.. I can taste the vape liquid in my throat when I wake up so it must be leaving residue in my lungs I guess which worries me.

ErrolTheDragon · 26/09/2023 10:32

Yes, I wish disposable vapes were banned and that there was also a rising age ban on selling any tobacco products as some other countries have implemented, with serious consequences for the sellers.

But meanwhile, you need to take responsibility for quitting, follow some of the advice on this thread, don't wait for when/if there's a ban.

Bluevelvetsofa · 26/09/2023 15:16

I smoked many many years ago and gave up one day in March on a No Smoking Day. I put aside the money I would have spent and in quite a short time, I had enough for the deposit on a new sofa and chairs
