I'm a nosey neighbour, but....

(Lighthearted)... why would my neighbour take a small carrier bag tied up, looking like rubbish, out of his house, down the street and put it in the litter bin on the corner, and then come straight back home again? Instead of putting it in his own wheelie bin outside his front door? It was a small carrier bag so it definitely wasn't because his bin was too full.

Following to read updates 😂

We do this if we have bones from chicken, fish skin and bones. Forgotten about cheese which has gone smelly etc. Don't want it hanging around stinking out our garage (where we keep our wheelie bin) so we put it in the public bin which is emptied regularly due to heavy foot fall with it being outside a pub and a bus stop.

FloralDerangement · 25/09/2023 18:28

I have a neighbour who does this and I can't work out why. She never puts her actual bins out, just puts a carrier bag of rubbish in the bins at the end of the road.

HauntedPencil · 25/09/2023 18:28

I've only ever seen an alcoholic neighbour do this with empty bottles.

I was about to say the same.

Interesting to see the other responses though. I DGAF and chuck whatever in my bin.

saltnsaucey · 25/09/2023 19:45

Maybe it was just for a different recycling bin fgs

Dead rat.
Had to do it myself when my very phobic mum found one in her garden. She wanted it as far away from her as possible. I took it the bin next to the bus stop just down the road.

I'd be like this

topnoddy · 25/09/2023 19:55

There's signs on the bins round my way telling us they are not for household waste !

Same

Oooooooooooo1 · 25/09/2023 20:14

My neighbour does it when they've had fish

Antst · 25/09/2023 20:19

I have judgmental relatives, so never put anything in their bin when I'm house-sitting for them. They'd judge everything.

The disinfectant would be an expensive waste of money, the vegetable package would be a sign I waste money on pre-packaged food, the mini wine bottle would be a sign I'm turning out like my father, and God help me if there were an ice cream container.

Bet his takeaway packages were in the bag and he didn't want his wife to know he has fallen off the wagon as far as his diet.

WomanStanleyWoman2 · 25/09/2023 20:21

Remains of a heroin wrap.

Empty vodka bottles?

Sadly, I think so too.

Redwinestillfine · 25/09/2023 20:26

Definitely sex toys 😂

lemonsinlife · 25/09/2023 20:27

It was too small to contain vodka bottles or anything like that. It wasn't different recycling as he put it in the normal street litter bin, and we have recycling bins outside our houses.

The results of cleaning out the cat litter tray?

Mumsanetta · 25/09/2023 20:34

If you were a nosy neighbour worth her salt you would go and check.

PuttingDownRoots · 25/09/2023 20:36

I once made the error of putting a dead bird in my bin... got maggots. I would definitely dispose of a similar carcass in a public bin now. There's one 50m from my house that is emptied 3 times a week.

PickledFox · 25/09/2023 20:38

Empty alcohol bottles most likely

SunOrRain · 25/09/2023 20:38

I’d go with it being a dead rat or mouse. Something a bit gross he doesn’t want in his bins. I had to do the same when some neighbourhood cat leafy a half body of a bird on my grass. Bins had just been emptied and I didn’t want a maggot ridden bird carcass in them nor did I want it rotting on my lawn so off it went in a bag to the nearest frequently emptied public. So that or an actual human body part or drugs. One of those 3 - got to be.

Aquamarine1029 · 25/09/2023 20:38

He's hiding something from the Mrs/partner.

Coffeesnob11 · 25/09/2023 20:40

My alcoholic ex used to crush the cider cans and take them in a bag to the nearest bin to try and stop me noticing he was drinking!

I used to do this in my old house. Garden was landlocked and it was really awkward to get bins through so I used to out all my rubbish in the large biffa type public bins that were in the car park across road. Even did it with my recycling as there was a small recycling centre there as well.

Eating disorder and doesn’t want others in the house to know what he’s eating.

This. I used to do this with fried chicken bones

Ava27261 · 25/09/2023 20:52

Nappies. His bin is already full
