My work haven't given me any shifts for next week

Okay bit of a misleading title, they have gave me some shifts but I've told them repeatedly I'm not able to do the start time.
My manager left this week so we have a stand in manager who I've made aware 3 times.
What am I suppose to do? Feeling unappreciated at the moment, do they not want me to work there?
At this rate I'm going to have to leave because I can't afford to pay for a childminder if she isn't needed.. never been in this position before so not sure what to do

Is it the type of job with various shifts, some more sought after than others? In my work we are expected to take turns at all the time slots. So sometimes- early morning starts- it does cost me more in childcare than I earn for that precise hour for example, but overall I earn more than childcare costs.

Hmm not really, they've said they are more than understanding as to why I can't do early starts. Rota was done about 10 days ago, so I made the manager aware before she left.
I told the new manager once over the phone then two times yesterday when I seen him in person

Send a message to say the hours you WILL be working

That way you've presented the problem with a solution

mushroommummy · 23/09/2023 19:25

What industry?

29andLost · 23/09/2023 19:36

I don't have any contact details unfortunately,
The number I got from Google just rings out and I never got close enough to any colleagues to get their number
They are already aware of the hours I can do, as I've just been working them but I told them a few days after I started that for the time being I simply can't do early starts,
Not because I don't want to. I absolutely can't

Its retail, which I've got a feeling people will say is common but it shouldn't be
I shouldn't have to harass a manager just to get some hours, if they don't want me there anymore then say that

If you're in the care industry, send an email to your manager saying "I cannot start at 7am as you are well aware. I will go out on shift at 9am as is usual for me and you will need to ring the clients to tell them I won't be there until later"

Then it's up to them to rearrange the earlier calls with other carers, or, as I assume will happen, they'll not rearrange things or ring the clients either.

Are you on a zero or 8 hr contract?

NoodleNuts · 23/09/2023 21:52

If you accepted a job and then after you started decided to tell then that you couldn't start at whatever time, I'm not surprised that they are pissed off.

Why are you getting the phone number from Google?

Didn't you discuss your availability/the shifts that you could do at the interview stage?

29andLost · 23/09/2023 21:57

Neither, 20 hour

I wasn't aware of the shift patterns until I had started
They were actually very understanding as to why for the time being, I can't do early starts.
There'd about 14 other members of staff that can however so it's not like I'm leaving them short.
Because I have no other way of contacting them?
I said full flexibility which I did have to begin with

And the recent manager who left did say she would fix the rota
The stand in manager also said he would change it, maybe me just being impatient but I feel its rubbish to leave me with such little notice if they want me in on Monday
