My sofa isn't as soft as the showroom one

Got my sofa from a well known retailer in April, totally fell in love with it as it was super soft to sit on which is just what I wanted.
Got it delivered and it felt so firm to sit on. I have only found out since buying it that it will be firmer than showroom models until they soften with use. Noone in the shop told me this before buying it.
But I feel like mine is so much firmer, if I had sat on my own one in the showroom there's no way I would have bought it. It's now September and I'm still not happy with it.
Is there anything I can do or am I stuck with it?
Had anyone else had this happen with their new sofa?

If you've had it since April and kept it, you've no hope of returning it now!

Sorry!

Yes, and I hate it, but we’re stuck with it until we’ve saved for a new one. Did you go for foam seats? If not, and you can afford it, I’d be inclined to see if you can order the inner seats. That might make a difference.

Disappointedsofa · 23/09/2023 01:03

@Nagado the seats are foam and fibre. I get that they won't let me return it but would want them to potentially put different material in the cushions to make them softer or put more fibre in them

@Nagado was yours much softer in the showroom? Has yours softened at all?

It was perfect in the showroom; incredibly comfortable. We paid extra to have the firmer cushions, which I’ll never do again. It will definitely be foam cushions only next time. It’s starting to get better after four years, (looks slightly deflated though) but for the first couple of years you’d get a numb bum if you sat on it for longer than 90 minutes.

I bought a wing chair based on its incredible softness in the showroom. Of course, when it arrived, it was soft, but nowhere near the level of comfort I'd felt earlier. The original chair had been in the showroom for a good couple of years, apparently, and had hosted thousands of rear ends. When it thought of it that way, I was grateful for my fresh one!

@picador oh no, so it could actually take years to soften then, I almost wonder is it a different type of foam that mine has compared to the showroom model as they feel so different but surely they can't do that.
How long have you had your chair? Is it still firm to sit on

Unzip a base cushion and examine the foam.. Take photos

Go and compare to showroom.

If different complain and ask for new ones.. If they've made them from different materials they should replace because they haven't sold you what they displayed.

I'm not sure I buy the explanation that it'll soften with use. Is that something the company you bought it from told you?

How many hours does a showroom sofa actually get sat on, compared to a sofa in a house? If you favour one side of the sofa, does that side 'soften' and the other not?

I think the most likely reason is that they're made of different materials.

It's actually better. Not as soft, but I don't think I'd want to start out that soft.

Disappointedsofa · 23/09/2023 07:40

Yes I am going to take photos of the cushion I have and go and compare it with the showroom one, good idea.
I also don't see how a showroom sofa can soften so much when people are just sitting on it for a minute or 2 at a time.

We had much the same experience with a next sofa and after 3 years it still hasn’t softened to anywhere near the softness of the showroom one.

NutellaEllaElla · 23/09/2023 07:55

Stand/jump on the cushions? (While they're on the floor so you don't damage the base)
