The AGM is coming up and rumours are everywhere about the priorities of people.

In particular around hunting and climate change. Rees Mogg for example has publicly supported certain people.

I don't normally vote in the AGM but I will do so this year. If you are a member please look at voting.

For Nature. For Everyone. Forever.

Thank you

Thanks for the reminder - I will definitely vote. Anything to give the middle finger to that vile man.

Thank you.

I do not want to see the National Trust become a playground for the wealthy. That would be the opposite of the founders intentions.

It's going to be interesting, especially given that there was another thread on this, but from a different slant, 3 weeks ago, that went the full 40 pages.

DanceMumTaxi · 22/09/2023 22:21

Thank you for highlighting this.

RedDoughnut · 22/09/2023 22:25

If you were a left leaning anti hunting type ( but to lazy to do much research) who would you suggest deserves my vote?

ZenNudist · 22/09/2023 22:27

I'm a member but don't understand the issues

backbritishfarming · 22/09/2023 22:40

I was reading the annual report earlier (obviously nothing better to do 😬) and still forgot to vote! Thanks for the reminder.

HeddaGarbled · 22/09/2023 22:53

There’s controversy every year: whether to dump Cadbury, make volunteers wear Pride lanyards, highlight the slavery links of estate owners etc etc. I just want a nice day out and a slice of lemon drizzle.

Ozgirl75 · 22/09/2023 23:13

I don’t know any of the issues or what this is about but personally I DO like finding out about the history of the house and always end up down a google rabbit hole whenever I visit any of the houses. If they made money through slavery - well, that was pretty common back then, let us know but let us know the full history.
Equally, if you just want a stroll and a cake, that’s fine too.
But some of these houses have such interesting history - Uppark House, Polesdon Lacey, Petworth - every one of them is fascinating!

Will have another look for that. My search didn't find it though so if you have a link would be great.

The traditionalists seem to favour this campaign https://www.restoretrust.org.uk/letters-to-the-editor

Which for me are folks to avoid.

My replies don't seem to link! That was to the reference to a full thread 3 weeks ago.

I stated to vote but could not get to the second stage of voting, think the first page of votes got through.

Seychal · 25/09/2023 10:45

I ceased my membership of the National Trust. They sit on too much asset values and money. Lost their way like so many of our largest charities.

Floribundaflummery · 25/09/2023 10:59

I read the very long list of candidates and just voted for all the ones that mentioned caring for nature and restoring biodiversity and sounded more genuine (and didn’t bang on about all the political correctness).

It's very long and it was dragged off track quite spectacularly but it's worth a read, not least to understand the underhand tactics that the NT is employing to push members into voting for their preferred candidates.
