Babysitting - how much is reasonable?

My daughter works in childcare. She is qualified to Level 3.

One of the parents at the setting has asked her to babysit, from 4pm Saturday, to around 2am Sunday.

What would be a realistic payment for that?

If she were to be asked to babysit again, by another parent, what would be an acceptable hourly rate for her to request? Or should it be a set amount for an evening?

(She drives, so no issues around getting there/home again.)

What does she earn per hour? I'd be suggesting that.

A quick search through a local facebook group where people often look for / advertise baby sitters suggest most are charging £10-12 per hour, one mentioned £14/hr. The lower end of the range tends to be older teens with no formal childcare training and the more expensive ones tend to be people like your DD with nanny / childcare training and qualifications. That's outside London. Given that's quite a long time and it's not just baby sitting as she'll need to do tea and bedtime routines, and finishes after midnight I'd probably make it a bit higher.

I agree charging her usual hourly rate sounds reasonable

I'd say £12-14 per hour, especially seeing as it's not a standard "kids already in bed so sit and watch TV, home by 11pm" type of job. If she's giving them their tea, bathing them, putting them to bed plus staying until 2am, a slightly higher rate is called for.

The parents at my nursery pay £10 ph and that changes to £15ph after midnight.

Thank you. She told the parent that she charges £10 an hour, and she thought she was being a bit cheeky asking for that.

I thought she was undercharging, but not by much.

Sounds like she's in the right ballpark though
