NHS Video Appointment at 3am

For weeks I've been trying to get an answer. No answer. Is this what we're doing now? Really? A mom has to have a video call at 3am to arrange for an assessment? Mummy was diagnosed with a very rare genetic bleeding disorder. And I have to wait this long? He needs to be tested. That's it. But a 3am appointment??? Every day that's the only time listed.

I just signed up for AXA. As our managing director insisted (I just came back to the UK 7 weeks ago) and last week (week 5 of my working in the UK again) the entire office was laid off save the 'company director as required by law. So my stipend for private insurance is gone...hopefully the next job will have it...but is there a flipping point in using now in the meantime? It just went into effect 9th Sept.

I would imagine that’s an admin error.

ReeseWitherfork · 21/09/2023 17:37

I feel confident that you don’t have a 3am appointment. Why can’t you get anything from the hospital admin when you call them? Do they say someone will call back or…..?

forthefunofit · 21/09/2023 17:37

It won’t be 3am.

Deffo an error no one is doing 3am non- emergency calls

notagain2020 · 21/09/2023 17:44

Sorry to hear about your job on top of the worry about your son needing to be tested. Just on getting him tested in a timely way, you could find out the name of an appropriate consultant and see them in the private sector just for the consult and blood tests and do 'pay as you go'.
A lot of the UK private sector doesn't do private paediatric care though. London is the most likely place to find it.

Maybe this is exactly what they should be doing to deal with the excessive backlogs.

plumtreebroke · 21/09/2023 17:46

Are you in the UK? Or has the time been adjusted for local time where you are? Or it's a no appointments available.

Mummy is a he? Edit: OK he needs testing because of mummies problem.

I think all existing conditions can't be claimed when your employment changes, I don't have insurance but I remember a friend who's child had quite a few medical problems, when her husband moved jobs and re-applied for insurance under the new company all the child's problems were considered existing and therefore not covered.

mummyh2016 · 21/09/2023 17:46

It says not for patient attendance so even if it is that time you aren't needed for it?

ihaveayod · 21/09/2023 17:52

This will be an appointment for admin purposes only. Some clinics need an appointed "booked" so that they can see the referral information attached to the referral. They will then be able to triage the referral. You probably shouldn't have been given the paperwork. I'm a medical secretary in a GP surgery and we sometimes have to do this. I would phone your GP and speak to the secretary asking them to clarify this.

ActDottie · 21/09/2023 18:03

Pretty sure that’s an admin error

Edited

I had the opposite experience changes jobs went from AXA to Bupa and they still covered me for conditions I’d been treated for under AXA.

burnoutbabe · 21/09/2023 18:10

I have had a few of these letters.

It just means that they will call you to organise an appointment at some point. It will turn into a proper appointment after that.

SheilaFentiman · 21/09/2023 18:14

If it's any consolation, the AXA GP service gave me an appointment at 3am once. I attended it, because I was in pain and needed antibiotics!

melmonroe · 21/09/2023 18:15

It's a holding appointment. They'll book you a proper one in due course, I currently have one for Dec 25. It's to make sure you are in the system.

I'd say likely not 3am, however I did have an 'urgent' call back with 111 early pregnancy. I called them around midday and my 'urgent' call back with the GP was when they rang me 5am the next morning so who knows! Thankfully my phone was on loud.

EeesandWhizz · 21/09/2023 18:33

We have something similar - it's a fake appointment to get you booked in to the system - if you ring the number it will probably have a message telling you this.

I have no cue why this is a thing, it seems insane.

Yes me too. They must get so many people confused by it and there is no clear explanation that tells you what it is

Who the hell dreamt up that dumb system?

nomadmummy · 22/09/2023 16:46

OMG I could have booked this ages ago! Everything happened so fast I tried to book the appointment and thought at first it was something to do with my laptop, or an issue that might get fixed. I emailed the surgery - no response so finally I just booked and posted the question here. SMH, always ask other mums!! Thank you!

On the private insurance - they gave us a monthly stipend to get our own private. I got AXA. This was the first month but now I don't have the job and I have the AXA fee. :(

If they had the staff to do this there wouldn't be backlogs in the first place.

Well it would help if they didn't keep going on strike for a start...

Are you kidding? There are very good reasons why they strike fgs. It's like blaming the victim. Look at the government for blame, not the workers.

I think the main victims here are taxpayers and patients.

And the fault is still not with the NHS workers. It's with the government.
