Why do hairdressers offer you tea or coffee

I remember my mother tksing me to a hairdresser when I was small and my mother was offered tea. The offering of tea/coffee/refreshments happemed a few times since then.

There was a time when I stopped going to hairdressers and so I forgot about it. But I and an appointment last week and I was offered tea/coffee. I declinced because I was only there for a short time (wash and cut and blow-dry and also I had my bottle of water there with me).

I could understand the offering of tea or coffee for a long service if one will be there for a few hours but for a short service like a wash and blow-dry or for a cut, wash and blow - it's only really about 50 minutes.

It's just something I was pondering about.

I try and avoid drinking anything so I don't have to use their toilet whilst covered in a cape!

I don't find it weird at all
It's part of making you feel comfortable.
Mine always offers, sometimes I accept, sometimes not

Eh?

One, if you're in GB, it's punctuation at this point. Offering a cup of tea or coffee is Pavlovian when a new person enters the room.

Two, it's the universal gesture of comfort/welcoming somebody into a space.

Why wouldn't they do it?

My hairdresser gets the biscuits out as well and last time, a Victoria Sponge.

Oh yes - my kids used to love it when I went to the hairdresser as they always got given a little packet of those Biscotti biscuits. never had them any other time.

I'm now chuckling at the posters who are baffled at the thought of someone needing to use the loo at the hairdresser. Speaking personally, an immediate trip to the loo is essential for me on arrival at almost any venue I can think of.Grin

Once I was enjoying a hot chocolate at the hairdressers and my chopped hair fell in it 😢

Mine stopped offering any drinks due to Covid restrictions and didn’t start again when they were lifted. I just take my own drinks now.

My appointments take 2 hours so I usually accept the offer of a herbal tea or coffee depending on the time of day.

About 40 years ago they used to charge you extra for it at the end (and for conditioner!) now it's just part of good service.

Because it's a nice little perk. Mine used to offer wine 😂
