Bear Scratching Back GIF by Storyful

I'm in my late 30s and have somehow managed to get this far without ever having had thrush before. But now I am pretty sure I have and FUCK ME the itch is insane!!
I've ordered the Canesten thrush combi from amazon next day delivery, is this the best thing to get? Is there anything I can do in the meantime to make it more comfortable?

It’s hell on earth, I feel your pain. The tablet is the best thing but takes a couple of days. The cream might help very slightly till the tablet kicks in. Cold shower head blasted at it helps me 😬

Nowfreefromangst · 20/09/2023 21:07

Bit messy, but greek yoghurt. Both inside and out. Needs to be a live culture one.

But the best thing is the tablet and cream

I always use a specialist intimate wash as well (they are slightly acidic)

Hope you feel soothed soon 😀

I'm nervous of the tablet, Dr Google says nausea and diahorrea are common side effects... nausea I am rubbish with and I have to spend about 2 hours a day on buses, I can't be having the runs!
I also read that the cream works almost instantly, is that not true?! Oh God...

soak tampax in natural yoghurt shove it up

midwife friend advised shallow cool bath with
vinegar keep splashing -

avoid sugar, alcohol, don’t scratch

I used to have the cystitis/thrush after antibiotics cycle regularly,
wanted to sit in a bowl of crushed ice, almost crazed with it, hope
the Canesten works its magic for you asap

blablablagobshite · 20/09/2023 21:10

Natural bio yogurt on Tampon inserted overnight. The relief 😮‍💨

BigSwigs · 20/09/2023 21:13

I've always just used the pessary and cream. The pessary does get messy, it sort of disappears then reappears a day or so later in a pile of chalk. Another vote for live yoghurt temporarily.

Bio washing powder causes is for me so I use non bio, also eating too much sugar can trigger it or make mine worse, so avoid sugary foods.

ThelmaBorden · 20/09/2023 21:13

yes meant live culture yoghurt as nowfree said, also see many similar threads appeared below this one, stay off google!

MumofSpud · 20/09/2023 21:50

Another vote for yogurt- but keep an eye on what triggered it
My triggers are
Pineapple juice
White bread with NutellaSad
Fruit juice from concentrate

I take a weekly preventative treatment as I'm so prone to it, so I feel your pain. When I've had it in the past and am waiting for the tablet to kick in, a cold flannel soothes the area

What is the preventative treatment you take please? I get thrush every month, so would love to know.

icebearforpresident · 20/09/2023 22:29

I’ve never had side effects with taking the tablet OP, and the cream will help sooth the area while it is taking effect.

lucky you making it this far having never had thrush!

stayathomer · 20/09/2023 22:31

Boots have an own brand treatment that was like magic plus seemed to restore everything and, if possible, bump it up! Felt amazing after! Best of luck op, it’s awful

Imamumgetmeoutofhere · 20/09/2023 22:33

I've had it a fair few times usually due to antibiotics.

Usually buy the pessary with applicator and the cream then buy a tablet you swallow as a double whammy.

Natural yoghurt is said to help but I always try my best to use fragrance free laundry detergent with extra rinses, fragrance free soap and cotton knickers. Try to avoid synthetic or tight bottoms too.

And treat any sexual partner / partners you have too unless they use condoms as they can harbour it too and pass it back to you

Agii · 20/09/2023 22:40

I used creams, capsule, pessary - all worked only for a few days, only thing that has relieved and kept it at bay is Bio-kult capsules. I keep taking them for 2 months and it hasn't returned.

TrickyD · 20/09/2023 23:18

After various useless recommendations from the practice nurse, eventually the GP prescribed Ovestin to use internally plus some external cream, possibly Eumovate. Fairly miraculous effect. Still get the odd tickle but nothing like before.

tootrueblue · 21/09/2023 08:49

@jswnp it's fluconazole which is the same one-tablet treatment, but it's prescribed through the GP. I had a range of bloods done which showed nothing was wrong and after having bout after bout for about 8 months, the GP suggested this

Hi all. I know this thread is old. How long does the pessary take to work?

I used it 10pm last night and it feels worse this morning 😮

Thank you
