And if so, which tour company did you use? And did you go to Iceland or Norway? There are so many online, and I don't know which are genuine and which are not..!

I really want to give this as a present to my partner for his birthday but as it costs c£1000s I'm scared of getting ripped off! Thanks for any reccs.

We've got them nightly just now on the Isle of Skye so you don't have to go so far afield to see them x

We've been to Lapland and Iceland and not seen them. Hope you find them and have a fab time!

Amazing! I'm in the middle of London (concrete jungle) so I never get to see anything :(

Pre covid we booked a long weekend in Iceland. Flights were really cheap, about £30 each (family of 4) and we only took a rucksack each and wore our thick coats and over trousers and walking boots type. Then only packed thermals jeans and base layers. We booked a nice air bnb relatively cheaply and pre booked lots of excursions. They are great at public transport there and everything is centred around Reykjavik l, and it’s easier to double or triple trips during the day, such as the blue lagoon during day and northern lights in evening. Food and trips were pricey but fabulous weekend!! Such a lovely country too

Oh and just to disappoint you! Our eyes don’t really process the green blue and purple colour sky that you see in pictures but our cameras do! So it’s best to photograph the sky rather than look!! And it’s sooooooo cold in the evening, like so cold you don’t want to get out of the car to look at the sky!!

I saw them in Iceland on one trip and in Tromso in Norway on another. In my experience the guide/tour company will look at the predictions and weather, and then drive out to the best potential area. Also if there's zero chance of seeing them the night of your trip they will take you out on another night instead.

Make it part of a trip - ie book yourself a break in one or the other, and do other things as well lIceland has the blue lagoon and amazing waterfalls, volcanos etc. Tromso has husky dog sledging once the snow arrives - and other snow-related stuff - but check when that is likely to be.

As others have said either way it will be freezing standing around at 11pm somewhere remote. Bring ALL your thermals!

North Yorkshire - we've had loads of shared photos. I'm off out tonight to look.
