Hello, just wondering if I can request a blood test from my gp? I am constantly tired with no energy. Even after a decent sleep of 8-9 hours, I'm tired when I wake up and need an hour or two in the afternoon to get me through!
I'm 27, dont smoke or drink, I'm not over weight, 5ft4 and I weigh 9 stone 5pounds.
I eat a variety of food including meat, dairy, fibre, veg.
It's getting worse, could I ask for a blood test to see if I have any underlying conditions?

I’d be surprised if he didn’t arrange one for you. Have you actually been to see the GP?

ThereIsNoTomorrow · 20/09/2023 14:42

@Totaly no I haven't

Yes if you make an appointment with the GP and tell them you’re tired all the time, the first thing they’ll do is arrange blood tests.

Last time I went in saying I was tired she put it down to my depression 🙄 I'm not tired because I'm depressed, not to this extent anyway

Hi @ThereIsNoTomorrow
Ask GP to check your iron levels too x

Riverlee · 20/09/2023 15:00

And thyroid levels.

Go in andif they fob you off, be insistent. If they don’t mention a blood test, then ask for one,

PinkRoses1245 · 20/09/2023 15:03

yes definitely see GP and ask for blood tests

AbbeyGailsParty · 20/09/2023 15:07

“You’re depressed” the great fob off. I wonder if GPs are instructed to say this, or do they get commission from the pill companies.
Go back, see another GP, politely insist. And make sure you see the blood results yourself.

I'd go about it by booking the appointment and saying to the GP that you're struggling with significant worsening fatigue, explaining that this is affecting your ability to do things day to day.

I'd imagine their first port of call would be to arrange blood tests but if not I would ask them atthe appointment to arrange them and clarify what is being tested; ask for b12/foliate, vitamin D and thyroid bloods to be run to rule them out.
