Threadworms *cries*

So last night I was really itchy and found a threadworm. I know they are common but we have escaped them up until this point despite 4 kids aged up to 13.
I have bought ovex and dosed us all up today and will be changing bed sheets daily, washing towels, anti-bacing the life out of the house etc...
However I have a few questions from anyone who can help!!
My itch actually wasn't my bottom, it was my vagina, this was were I found the worm and I am both disgusted and petrified as very squeamish!! TMI sorry but I inspected a stool with a torch earlier and they are there. I have read on some random pages that the spreading to the vagina only happens in severe infestations...does this mean we could have all had them for a long time and not realised?
How long should I expect to wait before they are more obviously expelled? I'm dreading it!!
Is it true they go crazy in the few days after taking the first dose and make themselves known more?
How long do I have to keep up with the daily laundering? Bedding for all of us every day will take hours and hours as my hot wash takes 2-3 hrs and the drum isn't huge for 4 single and a superking lots of bedding. I just want to cry!

My suggestions are

  • absolutely definitely give everyone a second dose in two weeks time. The ones still in their eggs when you took this dose will hatch then, and you need to zap them before they breed.
  • I used to wash bedding a couple of times, and then made everyone wear pants under pyjamas. I washed pants, pyjamas, and towels everyday. But not all the bedding
  • dont worry about a hot wash. Key is plenty of rinses. Boiling (or ironing, or freezing) the eggs won’t kill them you just need to wash them away
  • doing the above used to clear it up for us. You’ll know if you’ve not cleared it, as you’ll be itchy again in about 4 weeks

good luck!

Oh sweetie we've all had worms in the house at some point. Take the medicine - it works - stop looking at your poo and wash stuff as and when you can. Write it off to experience and have CakeBrewWine

Sorry one more thing. The washing point is important - hand sanitiser or anti bac won’t help, so everyone needs to wash their hands a lot

I don't think finding a worm in you vagina means there's an infestation there. I think they can only survive in the rectum. (Sorry this is grim) but I think the odd adventurous worm can end up in there but they don't stay if you see what I mean.

I've always found ovex works overnight or at most 2 night. A big blob of sudocrem or Vaseline just before going to bed helps stop the itching as they can't get out.

Lots of hand washing and nail scrubbing.

The female worms come out to lay eggs around your anus and then they die. I think it would have been a stray worm with a crap sense of direction which ended up in your vagina.

I have had this exact experience 😭 the horror of finding a worm in there! I gave the whole family a dose of ovex, washed all bedding/soft toys they take to bed just the one time and it did the trick. I didn't repeat the dose either. It's grim but in my experience gone quickly!

This is gross but my DSis went through this with small kids in the house. A tip from here said to put a blob of Vaseline on your bum hole at night so they can't stray onto anything. Good wash in the morning. Apparently it works.

oh god that brought back memories..... you're not the first and wont be the last... it's one of the (many) grim features of parenthood.... my sympathies. Yes, wash everything and be extra vigilant for a couple of weeks. It will pass.

I have a delightful thumb sucking, soil/sand sifting, soap dodging DD. She's had threadworms on three occasions 🤮. I saw one of the fuckers one night when she woke up due to the irritation. Interestingly it was around her vulva so maybe another lost worm 😂
I make sure her nails are very short too so there are no trapped eggs there.

OVEX is great by the way ✌🏿

Thanks everyone for the advice/insight/reassurance! It's knocking me sick haha.
I just read a few web pages where it said if they were near the vagina it was a severe infection for them to be straying so far so I was wondering how long we must have had them to let them get to that point. Oddly we've had no anal itching but they are definitely there now I've paid attention!
Weirdly enough from googling - I've learnt they cam be the cause of bruxism which I've had terribly for the past 2 years with no explanation....hoping the ovex may be able to resolve that too if it is the case.

Sorry…worms cause teeth- grinding?

Apparently so....I never knew myself until I stumbled upon it but upon further reading it appears they can be!

How are you? Did you get rid of them?
