Breadmakers: help me choose

Am in the market for a breadmaker but finding it difficult to find one that will match requirements.

Best breadmaker lists all disagree with each other so they haven't helped much.

One of the Panasonics seem to be the best on the market but they're really pricey!

Can you help?
Am in the UK.

I'm looking for:

  • quiet
  • produces even colour
  • seed adding Shute/ door thingy
  • setting for french style bread
  • setting for Italian bread
  • pizza dough setting

Bonus:

  • brioche setting
  • viewing window
  • compact size / not to big
  • around £100 or less

I have a Panasonic. Honestly can’t fault it.

Daftasabroom · 19/09/2023 12:33

Yep, Panasonic, you'll probably need a new bread knife too.

gogomoto · 19/09/2023 12:35

My cook works (argos) one does everything apart from you open the top to add seeds etc. cost £35 in 2019

StBrides · 19/09/2023 12:54

Argos don't have the cookworks one any more unfortunately.

@Daftasabroom @Gilead do the standard white bread recipes with your Panasonics use sugar?
And can you but the bits in the dishwasher?

Panasonic definitely.

Drews · 19/09/2023 13:22

Panasonic. We've used ours several times a week for over 10 years. Its worth the extra cost.

StBrides · 19/09/2023 14:16

Guess I need to save for another month then!

Does it matter which Panasonic model people have?

Can't find a useful compare feature anywhere! The one on the website only seems to compare 2 models

@StBrides some use sugar, particularly if using dried yeast.
yes bits go in the dishwasher.
Mine is also used regularly, We’re a family of five and I occasionally bake for friends.

MagpiePi · 19/09/2023 14:24

I’ve had two Panasonic models - the current one is well over 10 years old.

It has all the programs you want and a seed dispenser thing. It doesn’t have a viewing window but I can’t say I’ve ever felt the need for one. The display shows the amount of time left so you just leave it to get on with doing it’s thing.

I’ve never washed the pan and mixing paddle as they are non- stick. (Oh god, is that a MN faux pas? )

Everyonesliverlovesparvo · 19/09/2023 14:36

I’ve got the cheaper Panasonic version which doesn’t have the seed chute thing. It cost me about £110 I think back in 2020. Tbh I just shove the seeds or nuts/fruit etc in when it beeps or even at the start. We’ve had great dough for pizzas and cinnamon buns. Look at eBay as there can be some good deals.

Appleblum · 19/09/2023 14:38

Panasonic.

TheDogsMother · 19/09/2023 14:45

Panasonic one with the seed chute. Honestly can't fault it.

SabrinaThwaite · 19/09/2023 14:53

My basic Panasonic model is about 15 years old and still going strong.

The bread pan and paddle don’t go in the dishwasher, but they generally just need a wipe with a damp cloth.

mateysmum · 19/09/2023 15:03

Panasonic. It is consistently the most recommended brand. I've had one for over 12 years.

WhiskersPete · 19/09/2023 15:05

Just get the Panasonic. It will be worth to what you save in buying bread.

Mine has all your essentials plus brioche setting (and much more!).

It's the SD yr2550sxc. Best investment ever!

MissBiljanaElectronika · 19/09/2023 15:39

Panasonic

Mine's coming up for 12 yrs use Grin

SoupDragon · 19/09/2023 15:43

Panasonic. Mine is over 20 years old and still going strong!

SoupDragon · 19/09/2023 15:45

do the standard white bread recipes with your Panasonics use sugar?

all the recipes in the booklet for mine include it but I've never put it in. I don't put the milk powder in either.

Yes, there's sugar in most of the recipes but we rarely actually include it.

We just wipe ours with a dry cloth 90% of the time.

Oldandcobwebby · 19/09/2023 16:13

My awesome Panasonic was £10 on Facebook Marketplace! Brilliant!

Daffyyellow · 19/09/2023 16:37

Panasonic. Worth paying for! Mine is over 20 years old. Never used the nut dispenser. No viewing window - apparently they can affect something in the dough, but I do sometimes lift the lid and have a quick peek. Pan and paddle go in the dishwasher after very use.

StBrides · 19/09/2023 17:35

It's unanimous!

@Oldandcobwebby wow, bargain!! Great username too!

Thanks everyone for your recommendations :)

Going against the grain I've found our Tower one to be very good - currently costs about £110 , but ours is now 3 years old and still in perfect condition.
