Home - how to cover this eyesore?

Recently done a small DIY project to convert a storage area into a small WFH space. For the last 10+ years this area has been used to hang coats and dump shoes, so it never needed any efforts on appearance. However, I don't want to sit looking at these electrics. I want an inexpensive, fairly fast solution. Needs to be something that can fit along the green line, which makes it trickier. Red line looks obvious but would hang too far out and block screen.Boxing it in is the obvious answer but pricy and time consuming to source a handyman.Cheap curtains on a wire is a consideration.I considered a roller blind but the cost efficient ones all click in at the side whereas I think I need something from the ceiling 🤔I'm wondering if you clever lot have any ideas. It doesn't need to be fancy or beautiful, just effective. Maybe something with velcro?!

A nice Roman blind, in silk or velvet, or whatever floats your boat. Try blinds 2 go. They fit in both ceiling and wall usually. Just check when choosing.

Tension rod is the easiest and cheapest answer. I'd be tempted to put a shelf in on the green line and that way I'd also have added storage space, then use the shelf to fix up a small curtain pole or blind that can be pulled down to cover the electrics.

CyberCritical · 19/09/2023 11:31

Sorry shelf would be lower than the green line, so it sits just above the fuse box (making sure you can still open the panel).

We have a canvas pic covering something similar....

I have never had a tension rod that has stayed up properly. You can get extending ones and hooks that you either screw into the wall or ceiling or adhesive backed ones which also fall down but can be glued in place. I use the sticky hooks.

I was going to say canvas pic too. Maybe fixed with double sided velcro.

I looked into this but its an odd size and I cant find an inexpensive print available that would fit. Once you start customising sizing, the costs go up and up. I've ordered a tension road and small curtain, which has only cost me ~30 all in. Arrives tomorrow so fingers crossed!

I'd suck it up and pay a handyman to box it in properly, anything else is going to look a bit gash imo.

I agree with you on that, actually. However, in the list of priority expenses, this just isn't up there. In time, getting it boxed in properly would be great but it's not gonna happen this side of Xmas.
