Practical or not?

Just interested what other people would do. For the first time ever DH and I are in a position where we can afford to buy a car of our choice, not whatever is the cheapest that does what we need. Currently we have an estate and a 7 seater, we would be replacing the estate.

I have 2 very opposing favourites. One is a very nice big 4x4 type, super practical, hybrid, all the bells and whistles, solid car. We have two teenage kids, a dog and when we do holiday it involves packing up a car. The other is a rather impractical sports car type. Still has 4 seats, not very economical, but is a dream car. We would still have the 7 seater though. Both would constitute a big deal for us either way. WWYD?

I’d always take the practical choice whilst the DC are still at home. When you replace the 7-seater (presumably when the DC have left home?), you could go impractical/fun then

I'm thinking practical too, it just makes a more sense, head over heart I think. But then DH will still have a big practical car, is there any reason to have 2 and I go round in circles 😂

How many years does the 7-seater realistically have left in it? The risk is you go for the fun car, then the 7-seater gives up on you - you’re then left without a practical car and presumably a smaller budget to get one. That would be my nightmare (I’m all about practicality!). But, if you can rely on the 7-seater for long enough then maybe that’s not going to happen in all likelihood

Current 7 seater is fine, solid car, no problems with it, gets good mpg and its not that old. DH is talking about if I get another 7 seater then he would look at replacing his in the future with something a little less practical, so I think his mind is 'one 7 seater is enough'.
