Resting heart rate

If you are a fitness tracker wearing 56 year old, what is your usual resting heart rate?

A work colleague was talking about this today and theirs is a full 10 BPM lower than mine!

Mine's about 75bpm usually, within the normal range. I'm active, not overweight, but I am anaemic.

MonikerBing · 19/09/2023 07:23

Mine's 54-6 and I'm 53. A little bit heavier than I'm used to and less fit at the moment although still pretty slim and active. I don't sleep in my watch and that's the day time resting rate (that Apple calculates for me).

RenegadeKeeblerElf · 19/09/2023 07:32

Mine is around 47, I'm 43 and not particularly fit (starting to exercise more but still obese). I think it must be genetic as my father has a similarly low heart rate and he is very unfit and very obese.

CharlotteBog · 19/09/2023 07:32

Over the last 12 months my resting hr average (not including sleep) is 55.
I am 52 and do lots of exercise and am very slim.
I don't wear the tracker at night as 1) it annoys me and 2) my sleep is all over the place; I don't need a device to tell me what I already know.

And just to add, that resting is often during the day when I am driving or sitting at my desk, not asleep. In my sleep it can drop into the 30s

Resting heart rate should be measured when you first wake up, not after sitting on the sofa chilling for a bit.

I am 51, my RHR is often below 50. I am not an elite athlete, but I am fit for age - sub50 minute 10km fit.

I always find my hr in waking is quite high, I think it's the shock of the alarm!

MagpiePi · 19/09/2023 07:39

I’m 55.
Resting HR including sleeping is generally 40-43. Awake RHR is about 54/ 55.

I walk and swim quite a lot and run about 5/6km 3 times a week.

I’m not as strong and fit as I used to be and a bit fatter than I need to be, and would class myself as a plodder rather than an athlete!

Mine is 54, it has dropped from 57 earlier this year since I started exercising more. Still not very fit though and I find coffee actually reduces it!

My resting is 56. I’m overweight. I guess that’s why the doctor did it twice and asked if it’s normal for me. I’m no athlete although can walk miles daily, so I think he was worried something else could be wrong.

Startstruck · 19/09/2023 07:54

Mune runs at about 41, unless I'm unwell or have competed the day before. I'm 53. I've always had very low blood pressure, even when I was unfit though, not sure if that's connected?

My tracker's RHR measurement is actually higher when I wear it to bed than when I just monitor during the day.

We can add a characteristic to the typical mumsnetter - they’re all elite athletes 😂

I am not elite but I do have running trophies!

I suspect the thread title enticed a certain demographic!

Saverage · 19/09/2023 08:07

Just measured mine. I'm 54 years old, 66bpm. Which is 'good' on that heart chart. That seems about right - I don't exercise but I eat OK, am only a couple of pounds overweight, and walk a few miles every day.
