Selfish neighbour's

Neighbor' 2 houses down is driving me mad tonight. Large marquee in garden with music through speakers and flashing lights.
They have just turned the music off but are outside talking loudly and laughing. I get not everyone works Monday to Friday but think it's bloody inconsiderate in a residential area where there are a lot of kids. I used to work Saturday and it was annoying hearing loud peoples on a Friday night but I accepted it was a weekend.
It's a Monday night FFS.
Sorry for the rant but why are some people so selfish

Is it a regular occurrence? If it is then I'd be pissed at them. If it's a one off, I'd be tempted to just leave it be and chalk it up to a special occasion.

I'm saying that but I wholeheartedly agree that I wouldn't like it and I'd be tolerating it through gritted teeth rather than accepting it happily!!

My neighbours are like this until 2/3am fairly often, from 10am in the morning too. All day until 2/3am in the morning. They dont care a hoot how any of their neighbours feel. They are also oblivious to the fact that their partying is 5metres from my bedroom window. Lighting bonfires/bbqs at any time of day or night is fine too (my washing is irrelavant as is my desire not to be sleeping breathing in bonfire/bbq fumes) Not so bad when its not hot as at least then I can close the windows and try and ignore them.
If this is a one off for your neighbours its annoying today but be thankful its not a regular thing.

If its a regular occurrence (whatever day of the week):

  • Compete the form on your Council website (or email them if no form) to report noise nuisance. You'll need to state their address, duration and some details (eg its clearly audible inside, with windows closed).
  • You can also phone Council's noise abatement line but opening hours vary. Its best to have a written record via the form (or email) as that's how you build up a record.
  • Knock on other neighbours doors - if they're also disturbed suggest they do the same form/call. Make it easy for them - give them the web link etc, print out your own form if it helps them, even offer to do the form for them. The more neighbours complain to the Council the better.

Lots of people will tell you not to bother, Council won't do anything etc and whilst for some people that's unfortunately true, for others its not the case. It's worth a try.

Also, some will tell you not to complain as you'll have to declare it when you sell but there's no guarantee you won't have the same exp if you move. And it isn't particularly easy, quick or cheap to move house.
