Can you afford it?

what will you do for the other meals?

so this is lunch and dinner 3 days a week?

FawnFrenchieMum · 18/09/2023 20:54

Six meals a week for you and your toddler? Yes I’d snap their hand off.
If we had a lottery win, a chef would be the first person I’d employ.

BCBird · 18/09/2023 20:56

If I could afford it yes i.would.

chychyete · 18/09/2023 21:01

@PickledPurplePickle they have given me simple meals to make and I can just make normal meals for my toddler that I've been making with the grocery that I have in the house

If you can afford it then yes

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 18/09/2023 21:03

No way. I don't see the point. How will having a few meals cooked for you per week cause weight loss? What about the rest of your meals, snacks etc? I know cooking every day is a bit of a grind, and I can understand why some people would like to avoid that, but if it's about the weight loss, then I don't think it makes sense. You don't need complicated meal plans to eat a healthier diet.

chychyete · 18/09/2023 21:28

@AllProperTeaIsTheft I totally understand however eating in a calorie deficit causes weight loss the personal chef figures all of that out makes and create healthy meals with more options I don't know anything about that lol that's why I've put the pounds on all I know is salad and chicken it's boring and I don't want to be temped to go off plan

chychyete · 18/09/2023 21:29

I don't have snacks only a protein bar and I know how to figure everything else out for the rest of the days as they have given me options that I can do that's suitable for me

No.

Cazzovuoi · 18/09/2023 21:31

No. Chefs are wholly unqualified to give adequate nutritional therapy.

Torganer · 18/09/2023 21:35

As in a personal that will come and cook for you? That seems very cheap. Or someone who will just send you recipes and ingredients to cook with. The latter isn’t a personal chef and you could do similar with those mailed boxes.

It’s not going to work unless they cook all your meals and snacks. Otherwise they won’t know what else you’ve been eating that week, and if you’re telling them that with weighed portions, you might as well just track all the calories yourself and save some money! Very easy to google 300cal recipes and make one of those for each meal!

chychyete · 18/09/2023 21:59

@Torganer they cook and buy all the ingredients and meal prep everything

OP posts:
chychyete · 18/09/2023 22:00

It's not a hello fresh thing it's an actual person cooking plating and meal prep

Torganer · 18/09/2023 22:06

At your house? That’s amazing! Do they wash up too?! I want one for lunches, would love someone to come and cook me lunch.

chychyete · 18/09/2023 22:11

@Torganer yea they do 😁

bluebeardswife7 · 18/09/2023 22:37

It's not much more expensive than Saxenda/wegovy.

rampagingrobot · 18/09/2023 23:04

There's no way someone is going to buy and cook 3 lunches and dinners a week at your house for about £60 a week.

Just the food alone will cost a lot of that, let alone their time.

I think you've got something wrong here....

I think it's prep as in cooked and delivered rather than cooked at the house
I can get 6 meals calorie counter and delivered for £32, ready to reheat...

rubydoobydoo · 19/09/2023 01:48

If it's about weight loss then I don't think 3 meals a week would make a lot of difference there.

However if I had the disposable income to afford a personal chef then hell yeah!

pompomdaisy · 19/09/2023 02:26

These figures don't add up. Have you had a proper breakdown of their costs? Labour alone would cost more than that!

The OP has said they come and cook and even do the washing up!!!

PinkRoses1245 · 19/09/2023 09:30

I’m not convinced that will help with weight loss, and doesn’t seem sustainable. I think you need to find a long term overall diet which you can sustain yourself. I love cooking so wouldnt do this.

PickledPurplePickle · 19/09/2023 10:01

I would go for it - but check the costings as that seems very low

catsnhats11 · 19/09/2023 11:05

No I wouldn't and I could afford it.

I'd hate someone else in my home and cooking my meals. What if I don't want to eat at a certain time or go out, the logistics sound like a nightmare.

Are you sure you aren't looking at this an an easy fix to lose weight? To lose weight (and not overspend) you'd have to resist any other snacking apart from these specific meals.

DragonDoor · 19/09/2023 11:27

It is a good price for a personal chef but it’s still a lot of money to spend on 6 meals for you only.

I don’t understand the logic in comparing the price to your monthly grocery spend, as you would still need to get food in for your lunches and dinners on 4 other days, and feed your child.

Also, grocery shopping usually includes household essentials such as toilet paper, laundry detergent etc.

As pp’s have said, 6 lower calorie meals a week isn’t really a diet plan. If it’s time that’s your issue, there are other meal delivery and prep services you could look into.

For example, Hello Fresh have a category of meals under 500 calories.
