Hi all,

I have a -2.5 prescription, same in both eyes, no stigmatism (sp?) or other isses.

I've been give AcuVue daily disposables. I've tried for 3 days now. It takes such a long time to get them in - they get stuck to my finger, and/or I put them in and they hurt so have to try again.

When I have got them in, they are okay to wear for a good few hours.

Does anyone else use these, or have used these and got any recommendations for:

1: tips on how to get them in (the lens keeps getting stuck to my finger and is so so hard to get onto my eye
2: tips to easily figure out if I've got the lens the right way up
2: any alternatives that are easier to apply?

Any advice gratefully received, thank you!

Ah I love my lenses, hopefully yours get easier for you 😊

It’s easier if your eyes aren’t dry so you could try putting in moisturising drops before putting them in, they ‘jump’ onto the eye (if that makes sense!) more easily then. Also make sure the lens is totally balanced in the middle of the lens on your finger, not to one side, so that when you hold it to your eye there is very little touching your finger and it transfers easily as you hold it towards your eye and you should be able to blink it on .

i find you can normally tell if they’re upside down when still in the blister packaging- hold up to the light once opened and if you can see a rounded shape almost above the water line in the packet they may be upside down.

Reading all that back I don’t know if it makes any sense, but I hope helpful 😂

Thanks so much, MagicMagician.

I don't have any additional solution so I think I'll buy some, that makes sense. And I will try holding the package up to the light before getting the lense out.

Thanks again.

I will keep persevering :-)

Is your finger dry? The wetter your finger the more it will stick to it.

I found time and practice the only thing to make it easier( and short nails..)
But Daysoft lenses have transformed my life.
much nicer feeling in my eye. Sometimes I tear one taking it out of package as they are quite thin but they are also much cheaper than other brands.
i recently bought some more expensive ones again as I was away but I immediately felt a difference and went back to Daysoft!

I only wear lenses one or two days a week, I used to use AcuVue Moist, now I have the daysoft ones.
My acuvue ones had 123 embossed on the side, so you could tell they were the right way round (if you could read it once it was on your fingertip it was the right way).

On days I’m wearing lenses I use eyedrops (just off the shelf at Superdrug/boots etc - check for contact lens suitable ones) a couple of times in the day when my eyes feel a bit dry or irritated.

Clean, dry fingers and balancing the lens right on the fingertip so it’s minimally touching tends to be easiest for me.

Don't use solution with them, they aren't designed to be used with contact lens solution, it's a moisturising drop you can use and you need to use one that's designed for use with lenses.
You need a wet lens and a dry finger. Check the lens isn't inside outTo do this, just put the lens on the tip of your finger and hold it up to the light. If the edges flare out, it's inside out. If it looks like a smooth-edged cup, it’s ready to go.

If you're still finding it tricky, just call up the opticians and and explain that you're not getting on with them and you'd like to try a different brand. Acuvue are definitely more fiddly than some of the other brands. Don't swap to a different brand without having them fitted, even with the same numbers on the packaging, different brands of lenses don't fit on the eye in the same way.

I'm not keen on Daysoft through, you can see often see manufacturing defects on them through the microscopes we use.

I use a little applicator, very easy, got so used to it over the years I dont know if I could pop lenses in with fingers now .
Very inexpensive, I have a few , just make sure they're sterile.

I recommend daysoft for value for money.

Perihelion · 18/09/2023 18:59

It gets better with practice. Also easier with short nail on the fingers you use and before moisturising your face. I use the same finger for both eyes. Couldn't swap hands like I was taught. And for some reason opening my mouth and making a surprised face helps

Catinawhirl · 18/09/2023 19:13

I use acuvue moist lenses. I pour saline over them in the palm of my hand before I put them in, I hope this OK, as it does work.

CantFindTheBeat · 18/09/2023 19:43

Thank you all - some great tips on here.

@Zippitydoodaa

I had no idea you could even get a thingie to help put the lens in.

I've just ordered one - thank you!
