Did anyone else’s “check engine light” seem to switch on when you hit 30?

All my health issues have started in the last couple of years and seem to gradually get worse. I am 34.

I know someone who was very able bodied, worked fine etc but hit 30 and is now on high rate universal credit with disability element cos she’s fucked.

Is 30 supposed to be when we decline? I mean, we aren’t even middle aged yet

No, it was early 40’s for me.

If I could go back to 34 I’d get to an optimum weight and find exercise that I enjoy doing. Then I’d look into HRT and see if it’s something I intend to do.

Seems to be the case with me and all my friends, all early 30s but for me seemed to be triggered by pregnancy and having kids

I remember reading a newspaper article from the early 1900s about an ancestor I was researching who was described as “middle aged”. She was 35 at the time, same age as me 😂 that made me feel old! Buy yes, after 31/32 things started to creek and ache for me. I don’t know if it’s psychological or not.

ThreeRingCircus · 18/09/2023 11:38

Yes, I found the same. I'm only 35 now and luckily don't have any serious health issues but started noticing little niggles after I turned 30. However, that also coincided with me having my two DDs.

Examples are suddenly I needed to wear contact lenses after always having perfect vision. I also started getting aches and pains e.g lower back aching if I'm stood up too long. Now DDs are both at school and I have a bit more time to myself I'm focusing on getting fitter and healthier as I want to be healthy in my 40s.

Amongst my peers, a lot of them hit this in their twenties. The ones who didn't seem to have sailed through their thirties unscathed, too.

No, but definitely from 40, things have been different and I was diagnosed with a long-term condition. But I make a really effort to take care of myself now. Good lifestyle, healthy habits, stress reduction, little noise/drama in life. So actually I feel much better and am much healthier in my mid 40s than I was at 40.

That said, it's quite typical for things like autoimmune issues to flare up in late 20s/30s, so if someone is predisposed to something, it's about the time it's likely to appear.

At.30 I was still a spring chicken, decline started slowly mid 30s but the rapid decline happened at 40! 44 now but sometimes feel more like 88!

No, it was early 40’s for me.

Actually, Ive just remembered that I was diagnosed with hypothyroid at age 32, so I suppose the rot did set in then, but I did have another baby after that.

Soubriquet · 18/09/2023 15:32

Weird isn’t it. Just pondering it as I’ve been in hospital for a week now. Still don’t know what’s wrong and the girl across from me was saying how her life went downhill when she hit 30.

Not for me, I’m hoping to get to 50 before malfunctioning!
