Please can you advise? 😃 Or offer pearls or wisdom in any way shape or form?!

Both cars that we have are old, over 10 years +, one a petrol, one a diesel, both manual transmission.

thanks in advance

Admiral multi car was by far the cheapest when my daughter passed 4 years ago- doesn’t matter if renewal on yours not up yet, they add it on

Add it on when it renews I mean

We used marmalade when my daughter passed her test.
They paid out really quickly when she crashed my car 😞😂

10 years ago when my sons passed their tests we found the best company from Money Saving Expert. I can’t remember the name of the company but they had to have a black box fitted and a night time curfew.
I do remember old bangers being more to insure than a newer more valuable car though.

What are the engine sizes of your old bangers?

He's probably just going to have to suck up a high premium.

Quote for paying in one go. Paying monthly means a credit check which he could fail, resulting in those insurers not showing up.

It probably helps if he plans to be the owner and the keeper of the car - again, if he's not, that will mean some insurers just won't quote. Once you decide which car he's having you can gift him the car and transfer the v5c to his name.

If he's currently unemployed and looking for work, get the job first if possible, because being unemployed jacks up the premiums.

If he's out of work but not looking, don't say "unemployed", another option will be more appropriate.

Don't quote shop too much. Repeated quotes from the same person with changing details will trigger anti-fraud algorithms from some insurers.

Oh, and if possible, quote for insurance to start about 3 weeks from when you get the quotes. If you ask for quotes to start tomorrow they will be hiked up considerably.
