So I'm hoping someone can advise me. I work as a teaching assistant but I only get paid term time. I obviously can't survive on this wage alone so I have taken on another job part time in a shop. This is the bit I'm
Not sure of... do I only pay 20% tax on my combined income after my tax free allowance kicks in or will my 2nd job be taxed at 20% from the get go?

I only earn about 14k as a teaching assistant and my new job is 12 hrs at 10.60 so I'm
Definitely not rolling in money and nowhere near the 40% tax bracket

Any help welcome

You’ll pay 20% above your tax free allowance. As you’re already paying tax on your first job on the bit that’s over the allowance, then 20% on all of job 2, as all of that is above your allowance anyway.

The 20% goes up to income of around £50k a year. You’ll lay 40% on anything above that (up to £100k income).

around £25 on job 2 will be tax, per 12 hours.. not sure if that’s weekly or monthly. Then NI and any pension?

That's the figure I get too. I don't want a pension on this job as I have a good pension in my main job. Thanks for your help. Isn't paying tax a pain in the backside lol

It really is 😂. I’m also a TA, and pay extra into my pension, I started off by paying the amount of tax, as that way I wasn’t losing out and in the long term gaining something. Then when I took on the 2nd job, as my pension contributions are counted before tax, I actually paid less. A bit of a faff but worth it in the long run. No longer do the second job x
