Varifocals- do you find the clear close reading point area very small?

If I look at the whole page it’s obviously not all clear. The bit that is clear to read is very small. Is that normal?

I had to get my lenses changed to the most expensive (no surprise there) as nothing seemed to be in focus, everything was weird! All fine now though. Are yours the expensive ones?

You do need to move your head more but it shouldn't be so small as to be unusable. You tend to get a better field of useful vision with more expensive varifocals.

The cheaper the lens the smaller the reading area.
That said, even expensive lenses have a small area rather than the width of the whole lens, there will always be distortion around the edges of the reading area. You need to get used to moving your head, rather than your eyes, to read. it should become second nature and less of a struggle quite quickly.

Yes they were the most expensive they offered. Small independent. Have sent them back once. He spent a lot of time measuring.

What size page are you looking at and how far away?

When I read a book, it’s all in focus.

I hated varifocals and now have occupational lenses - very clear, larger area for reading vision, plus cheaper.
