Have I missed the season this year? Will be gutted if I have - they're my all time favourite fruit.
I keep making special trips to Waitrose to no avail 😭😭😭😭😭

Maybe? I've been buying them from our local farmers market for at least the last month.

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 15/09/2023 23:00

I'm quite far north and my tree is getting over ripe

NumberFortyNorhamGardens · 15/09/2023 23:12

Victorias are utterly yummy but rather fragile, so often not found in supermarkets. It’s been a funny old season this year; the wet dreary July and August will have delayed ripening and you may not get the greatest harvest. Don’t give up on them for another couple of weeks yet, though.

I've found them once ONCE this year

Theunamedcat · 16/09/2023 01:23

Apparently M&S has them in

Birdie8989 · 16/09/2023 01:34

DS found them at the grocer the last 3 weekends. The season is so short that I'm pretty sure he won't find them again this weekend. Hopefully you manage to find a few before they disappear for another year🤞

GiveUsACoffee · 16/09/2023 01:37

My next door neighbour brought me a bagful a couple of weeks ago...fresh off her tree! It was the first time I had tried them

Ihateslugs · 16/09/2023 02:40

I bought some from Tescos two weeks ago but they did not have any this week. I managed to get four punnets over the two weeks they were in stock!

MidnightOnceMore · 16/09/2023 06:50

I can still get them at our local veg place (,their own trees) but they are quite ripe.

BerfyTigot · 16/09/2023 06:53

Ooh thanks for the heads up about m&s! I'll make a special trip...

My favourite too OP. I was having the same conversation with someone at work yesterday. I’ve never seen them in a supermarket for years.

I went down the market a couple of weeks ago and got a couple of punnets so I’ve had my hit for this year. Takes me back to sitting in the Plum tree just eating all afternoon.

BerfyTigot · 16/09/2023 06:57

Thanks to everyone for replying. Even those who broke my heart telling me that victorias are pretty much over 😭

Ive had so many off my tree we aren't bothering to pick the last few. Have eaten my body weight, given away bagsful and have a load of plums hogging the freezer. We only have a very small tree.

Season was early this year i thought. Im in south east england.

Mrstwiddle · 16/09/2023 07:02

This post made me wonder about why the kitchen selling outfit named themselves VictoriaPlum - does anyone know?

DinosApple · 16/09/2023 07:09

Aldi had them last week, my favourite too OP.

We've got a small Victoria plum tree in a pot in our garden - it had a fair bit of fruit on it for the first time, but was over by the third week of August here (East Anglia).

It would do better in the ground, but we want to take it with us when we move.

BarrelOfOtters · 16/09/2023 07:18

I’m north west and my plum tree finished about 6 weeks ago. They are very easy to grow. Just get a tree on the right root stock for your size of garden. Give it 3 years and you’ll have more plims than you know what to do with.

BerfyTigot · 16/09/2023 09:17

Went to m and s and got some Marjorie. They're acceptable but not Victorias.

At least I'm in the right season to plant a tree!
Thanks everyone ☺️
