Why does my feet hurt!

I've tried googling. I think I suck at it because I can't find an answer.

A small, 1-2cm portion of my inner arches near the heel hurt when I rub them. It's pretty painful — I wouldn't describe it as a mild pain at all.

BUT, they feel fine when left alone as the pain only comes along when I apply very light pressure on the area. I don't have flat feet.

I've circled the area in question. Does anyone else experience this too? It's driving me nuts!

Hi @MyArchesHurt
Does your day to day footwear have arch support?

Newtrix · 15/09/2023 22:05

I have this on my left foot!! Big reoccurring knot. I have custom made insoles but they didn't help this particular issue. Only thing that helps is Thai foot massages but it does come.back. Following with interest.

Hi! I wear running shoes to work (even though it's a sit down office job). Walk about 3km daily in them so not too much but a decent amount.

Hi @MyArchesHurt
Sitting down, try placing your foot on a tennis ball or cricket ball and rolling the ball under the arch bit of your foot, hopefully this might help.

Sounds like Plantar’s Fasciitis and bloody painful it is!

I’ve had it in both feet at different times. You can try the stretching mentioned and also get shoes with really good arch support and wear them all the time, don’t go in bare feet as that’s the worst. Not even when you get out of bed in the middle of the night or in the morning.

I also took ibuprofen, but I don’t know if that’s what you call it in the UK. It helps with the inflammation.

And I’m sorry you have it because it really hurts.

I've tried getting a Thai foot massage too and it was nearly excruciating when this particular area was "pressed"! It did feel better afterwards but by the time I got home and rubbed this spot it hurt again. Hmm

It sounds like plantar fasciitis. I developed it about a year and a half ago and it’s only just started to improve now. Rolling a tennis ball under your foot helps as does massaging the area with tiger balm and doing calf stretches. The consultant I saw said it can take 2 years to improve. It’s worse if you’re carrying extra pounds. Mine has got better since I’ve lost 1 1/2 stone

Sounds like plantar fasciitis. Mine was caused by heel bone spurs that have grown in those exact places on both my feet (showed up on x-rays). Consultant thought probably due to too much walking(!) & pronation of feet, as I don't have fallen arches. I now wear orthotics, trainers in winter & Fitflops in summer, otherwise my feet will complain & when they do it's back to doing the PF exercises again. I would say I've been pretty problem free since, but if I wear different shoes/fancy shoes for events I know about it!
