What flooring do you have in the bathroom?

Just moved into mould and curled up roll of vinyl.

Was thinking tiles but would the kids slip too much?

Would laminate hold up long in a bathroom?

We moved into a house that had laminate. When we lifted it to do plumbing the floor was covered in mould as water seeps through the cracks. It had only been down 6 months as seller had put it down to sell.

We have cushioned vinyl. It’s been down 7 years and is still perfect. DC too clumsy for tiles and would drop something and smash one, plus they are cold without underfloor heating.

YukoandHiro · 14/09/2023 14:17

Turns out to replace the floor you have to take out all the bathroom furniture and it ends up costing loads... we decided to hang on til we could afford a full refurb...

Tiles in one and stripped floorboards in the other. Never noticed any slipping on wet tiles but they are ever so slightly textured, looking like slate, you'll probably find some are more non slip than others.

Weve just had LVT put down. It doesnt feel cold to walk on and it doesnt get slippery

Bearpawk · 14/09/2023 15:00

If you have young kids I'd go cushioned vinyl for now. Then textured tiles once they're older with underfloor heating.

ThinkingAgainAndAgain · 14/09/2023 15:15

We have amtico, which is laminate. But if I was replacing the flooring without replacing the bathroom, I would have cushioned vinyl as you can cut it, it cleans easily, isn’t cold and is forgiving on the feet.

CatsOnTheChair · 14/09/2023 15:16

LVT in the one we've done.
Tiles in the others. Tiles were a definite no as a flooring when we got the choice - cold, and one set were slippy.

Tonight1 · 14/09/2023 15:20

Vinyl, unfortunately. I'd much rather have tiles.

Azaeleasinbloom · 14/09/2023 15:21

I have tile, with underfloor heating which is set to come on if the temperature drops below 10c (Scotland). The tiles are fine but we are an adult only house.

Laminate is not recommended for bathrooms as it is not sealed and does not breathe. I have vinyl in the cloakroom off the utility and it’s very easy to keep.

BarrelOfOtters · 14/09/2023 15:23

We had vinyl in one piece before and it was easy to clean and soft.

Currently have shiny white tiles which I hate as they never look clean

In ensuite have wood effect tile planks - which I like. Don't show every spek of dirt.

Also have electric underfloor heating so both tiled rooms feel warm - not too expensicve to run as small area.

We are planning on using Marmoleum in the kitchen and bathrooms of our newbuild. I am overwhelmed by the choice of patterns! How do you find it to keep clean? I have heard it's OK to steam clean but am a bit wary - I'll maybe see how well Robo mop manages to start with!

Shamrockk · 14/09/2023 15:58

LVT is a good option however you need to make sure your subfloor is level or the floor can become uneven/bouncy/lift. If laying on concrete then it must be smooth without any imperfections. My DF owns floor shops and my DB is a floor fitter, had a lady in looking for a 2nd opinion before requesting a refund for faulty LVT but turns out her subfloor was extremely uneven - something her joiner should have noticed but unfortunately fitted it despite it being clear it was not level she was unable to get a refund and had to chase the joiner for the money to repair it. We have LVT in the kitchen and looks just as good as the tiles in the bathroom, I prefer the matte finish of them over the glossy tiles in the bathroom!xx

Tiles, I really wish I'd gone with vinyl.

BlooDeBloop · 14/09/2023 16:06

You could try cork as a natural alternative to vinyl

Abfab63 · 14/09/2023 16:07

Porcelain to look like wood has been great, looks nice, isn't slippy as it's not smooth. Got ours from mandarin stone.

LittleLlama · 14/09/2023 16:39

Tiles - made especially for bathrooms so not slippery.

CarrieMoonbeams · 14/09/2023 17:13

We have Karndean (LVT), absolutely love it.

ASGIRC · 14/09/2023 17:38

Tiles. Not slippery at all. Wouldnt have anything else in a bathroom, with all the water...

dontchaknow · 14/09/2023 17:50

Cushioned sheet vinyl. Ideally you lay it under all the bathroom furniture, but I managed to lay vinyl and carefully cut it out around the toilet pedestal etc. Tucked under the bath panel, and sealed around the pedestals and edges with silicon it looked fine and served us well. It's warm and relatively non slip as well, and can cope with all the splashes. We've just had the bathroom redone, and have gone for cushioned vinyl again. This time it does go under the bathroom furniture!

dotdotdotdash · 14/09/2023 19:04

I chose one from the Cocoa range @TeaAndStrumpets because it has cocoa nibs in it that has subtle texture and therefore doesn’t show marks. I just wash with soapy water and it’s fine.

TammyJones · 14/09/2023 19:07

Bathroom and kitchen laminate
Brilliant
Easy ti clean
Been down 4 years now no problems

WhisperingHi · 14/09/2023 19:10

We've got tiles and the kids have never slipped over. If you get the type made for bathrooms it's absolutely fine. We have large tiles so less grout to get dirty.

ladygindiva · 14/09/2023 19:23

I have pebble flooring like this

And I love it

ThomasHardyPerennial · 14/09/2023 19:51

We've got tiles (not our choice, previous owner installed). They are fucking freezing, everything you drop breaks, and they are quite difficult to clean depending on your water hardness. I am debating stick and peel tiles just to have something softer underfoot before a full refit.

Also, if you have tiled walls as well (we have a mix of full, and half wall) it turns the bathroom in to an echoing box. No privacy.
