Anyone with hypothyroidism here? TSH level 2.46

I feel like I may be experiencing hypothyroid symptoms which include terrible painful joints, its agony to crouch down, sit on the sofa, get up from the loo etc, absolutely zero energy, always exhausted no matter how much sleep I get. I feel cold even when it’s hot, but sweat buckets no matter how much deodorant I use. I’m also unable to lose weight at all no matter what I try the scale doesn’t budge.

had a thyroid check just after my dc was born about a year ago, it was 2.37. GP said it was just post partum tiredness. It’s now a year later and symptoms feel worse so I requested my thyroid to be rechecked. It’s come back as 2.46 now and GP has again said I’m totally fine, this is just my normal way to feel. She has refused additional testing of my T3 and T4 levels and also antibody levels. Told me to take some ferritin as although it’s within normal range it’s on the lower side. I take a whole range of vitamins from cod liver oil, to magnesium and green lipped mussels etc, plus all my vitamin levels were great (apart from normal but lowing ferritin). Am I going mad? This is fucking soul destroying. I have no energy and no motivation for anything. Headaches all the time and an eye twitch that won’t fuck off. This cannot be normal life?!

Can you do a private test through medichecks or similar? Think it's about £60 with an at home finger prick sample

HesDeadBenYouCanStopNow · 14/09/2023 14:41

Currently at 5 but not classed as enough to treat despite symptoms.

Retest in a few months with the addition of thyroid peroxidase antibody level test to see if there is an underlying reason for change

Fustrating they won't test fully, could you look into private tests?. Low ferritin can also have you feeling exhausted so work in getting that up. Did they check Vitamin D? Look up the symptoms of deficiency.

And B12?

Lifeonabudget · 14/09/2023 14:54

Vitamin d was great, don’t think b12 was on there however I take a b12 supplement daily. Think my ferritin was 18 so not classed as deficient. I will definitely look into private if anyone can recommend one that’s accurate and reliable? I’ll look at that medicheck one!

I had a GP who refused to do thyroid tests.

I ended up doing an at-home blood test via Thriva, I went for the “Thyroid profile (advanced) package” which cost about £70. It tests for antibodies, TSH, FT3, FT4. There are other companies with similar at-home blood tests, you might be able to find a cheaper one.

Turned out I had sky-high antibodies, ie Hashimotos. My TSH was 4.9 and my FT4 low (can’t remember exact number).

My GP refused to treat me for it, despite the proof of autoimmune disease, high TSH, and that I felt absolutely awful. She said I needed to wait until my TSH went up to 10 before she’d do anything.

I ended up going to a private endocrinologist who was appalled at the lack of treatment provided by the NHS and finally got it sorted.

I recommend you do a full thyroid panel, vitamin D, and B12 if you haven’t already. Deficiency in those can cause symptoms very similar to that of hypothyroidism. Also work to get your ferritin up, that can cause serious fatigue as well.

@SteaknSalad will check out Thriva! Do you know how long it took for the results to come back? Also was the private endo?

She’s prescribed some ferritin so I’m off to pick it up.

@Lifeonabudget It was 3 or 4 days to get the results after posting my blood samples off. Very quick turnaround! I was impressed.

OP, I’ve done my private test in Monitor My Health. TSH, t3/4 and antibodies, I can see it’s 42 quid. They also interpret your results.
