Worried about toxic shock syndrome

I had a very heavy flow yesterday. I wore a tampon from 8pm-2am and changed it
It was full
I wore another 2am-7.30am and when I went.to replace it had nothing but a spot of blood on and now I'm worried as I was dry I'm going to get TSS from it

Vanishingly unlikely. Do you feel unwell? Any signs of infection? You’ve taken the tampon out and presumably not replaced it? It was only in for 5 hours. TSS from tampon use is associated with tampons left in for long enough to grow a lot of bacteria.

no need to worry- I know easier said than done. I have a very unpredictable flow, like super heavy then nothing then heavy so often find myself in same situation as you/ on a monthly basis!

TSS is a risk if a tampon is left in place for a long time ( longer than a day) Bacteria develops in it that then spread to the body. You could use a tampon for the the same number of hours you did in anticipation of a period starting. It wouldn’t matter if the period didn’t start, you’d just chuck the tampon and no harm would be done.
