What sort of scan is done on the ear

I had an ENT appointment today after a hearing test found mixed hearing loss in one ear. The other ear has sensorineural loss only. I’ve had a hearing aid for 3 years but no conductive loss was mentioned at that. The doctor looked in my ear, said it didn’t look inflamed, infected or have any wax. He asked if I have any problems with that ear, and when I said it really aches if I’m out in windy weather, and when I sloosh with mouthwash I get a sensation like liquid going up the side of my face just in front of that ear. He said he wanted to get a scan done. I forgot to ask what type of scan they do to check the ear area. Does anyone know what it’s likely to be - ultrasound, CT, MRI?

I had an MRI for balance issues under ENT to check there was nothing sinister going on.

My DD has had both a CT and an MRI on her ear so could be either.

I had an MRI for similar.
Come to think of it the consultant said he would see me again in three months for a follow up. That should have been this time last year.
It's sort of gone away on its own or maybe I have just got used to it. Hearing is still iffy.

Thanks so much. Fizzadora. That’s a very long 3 months follow up !!! I’ve had the same symptoms for as long as i can remember but because it’s not anything majorly problematic (I put ear muffs or a hat on in windy weather ) and the mouthwash weird sensation is just bizarre but not painful, I’ve never seen the GP about it. It’s just odd that when my ears were first tested there was no mention of conductive hearing loss. So it was either not picked up at the first test, or it’s developed sometime over the last 3 years. If its CT or MRI I imagine there’ll be quite a wait. Forgot to ask about waiting times too . There’s something a bit weird I think, as the hearing aid in that ear is not helping a great deal, even though they are much better ones than my first pair.

My DD has some hearing loss in both ears and was referred for an MRI scan a few years ago.

I had a CT scan for my ear issues

Thanks everyone. I will prepare myself for a long wait I reckon
