Would you be annoyed if your DM went to the same Uni as you at the same time?

Not me, but an acquaintance is just about to start her Masters' degree, which is great for her, obviously. The thing is, she's going to the same Uni that her elder DS goes to. It's not a local Uni, it's on another continent from where she lives. Her DS is going into his second year.

All I could think is that I would have been pretty irritated if my DM had suddenly decided to crash my Uni experience, although I definitely wouldn't have said anything if she was helping to fund.

This affects me not a jot, of course, just curious how others would feel.

I am about to start my PhD at a university where my oldest is a student. Difference is we both live at home rather than on campus. We are in two completely separate faculties and rarely bump into each other on campus - unless by arrangement when he wants mum to buy lunch.

If it was the local uni then fair enough, but it’s bizarre that she’s following him to another country. She could choose any uni in the world but she’s decided to squat on top of him, it’s just weird. Why do you care anyway?

A lot depends on the University and the course. I had a couple of Aunts doing courses in my University which was quite a small campus. Unless we arranged to meet up I never saw them other than one who the odd time would run into in the bathroom in one building

Yes I'd be annoyed! My DM jokes about this but it's not on!
Having said that if it's a massive uni you're hardly going to bump into each other anyway, so what's the issue. Just my feelings - no I wouldn't be happy.

A friend of mine when going into his second year of s four year course at Cambridge was dismayed to find his father had sold his business, taken early retirement aged 50, and decided also to do an undergrad degree at Cambridge.

so they spent the next 3 years in the same teeny place

not the easiest, particularly as all his friend thought his dad was great

Exactly, if it was a local place then it'd be completely unremarkable, but this poor child has moved from North America to the UK only to have his mum trail along.

I don't care at all, I just had a slight inward cringe when she told me and idly wondered if my reaction was weird.
