Hi,
I am looking for people with similar experiences as I’m at my wits end.
Been to A&E twice since Sunday with blinding upper abdominal pain but they won’t investigate further as there is nothing abnormal about my blood.
So they’ve ruled out infection, pancreatitis and gallstones because bloods are fine.
I have the most awful upper abdominal pain a couple of inches above my belly button which just radiates down through my whole lower abdomen, back and up to both my shoulders. Bowels are fine. Eating and drinking are uncomfortable whenever whatever I’ve eaten/drank passes the painful area.
Next course of action is a referral for a scan so god only knows how long I will be waiting with this pain. :(
Paracetamol doesn’t touch the pain and I’ve just been advised to take buscopan and gaviscon…
Any similar experiences most welcome x
Im sorry for posting on chat but I know it gets lost of traffic

I had this happen. Upper right quadrant pain vomiting etc. A and E wanted to discharge me with paracetamol when the tramadol my GP had prescribed was only dulling the pain a bit.( My GP told me to go to A and E if the tramadol didn't work)

Nothing showed on my bloods but I insisted I didn't want to be discharged from A and E until the pain was under better control. I got accused by the A and E doctor "you just want to be admitted don't you".

They did admit me and gave morphine injections and I had an ultrasound the next day. I did have gallstones. Apparently if they aren't totally blocking the bile duct it doesn't always show in bloods.

When they did surgery they said the gallbladder was badly inflamed and stuck to the liver.

This was in 2007 so don't know if protocol has changed since then.

I'm the same as the previous poster, I've turned up to a&e in absolute agony with gallstones only to find my bloods have gone back to normal by the time they tested. My attacks were quite short, only a couple of hours so very often they wouldn't pick up on things by the time I'd been seen as things had settled down.

My advice is don't ever refuse the operation if they offer, get your gallbladder out as soon as you can! I put it off thinking I could manage it with dietary changes but the silliest things would set it off like fizzy water or time of the month. Sometimes it would kick off when I woke up and hadn't eaten for 12 plus hours, there really is no long term way to manage it with food choices so don't be duped. I regret putting it off as long as I did.

Now I've had it removed I get occasional pain an diarrhoea if I really overdo it but mostly I get away with eating like a pig. It's glorious. 😃
