Reprographics is working in the printing room producing worksheets, booklets and exam papers etc for the students. In a large secondary school or college this is a full time occupation, might even need more than 1 member of staff. Need to be organised and prioritise what needs doing first etc.

BibbleandSqwauk · 13/09/2023 16:23

Teacher here. If you are good at it and friendly, helpful, bail out rushed teachers who haven't managed to file their printing needs by the regular deadline you'll be the most popular person in school. It will be everything from day to day worksheets for class use to binding and printing prospectuses, options booklets, internal exam papers, programmes for plays etc. You will likely also be in charge of toner and paper and fixing jams in any other printers or copiers around the school.

It sounds like a number of jobs rolled into one, but I'm going for it, not many jobs are willing to train and give older applicants a chance so wish me luck

That’s me ! Remember to emphasise your willingness to do anything , flexibility, good at prioritising work. Does it include first aid by any chance?
It’s not rocket science but I enjoy my job, and I can go home at the end of the day and leave it behind.

Linzijj · 13/09/2023 16:48

Yes first aid plus, replenishing staffroom and hospitality, theres a whole list of responsibilities but I like to be busy, do you enjoy it?

Definitely! Working on a school can be quite full on , there’s never a dull moment but I really like the staff. I really feel appreciated as my attitude is that I’m there to help. I too am an older person, I went back to work after children from a completely different industry. I’ve been at this school for 12 years and a previous one for 9 years.
There won’t be too much formal training as such, you’ll need to do a first aid course, most of it will be learning on the job.

Sahara123 · 13/09/2023 16:57

It’s not in Scotland is it ?!

Linzijj · 13/09/2023 17:02

No it's in East London, I'm very helpful always try my best just need some confidence in my self, I'm similar I'm 54 and not worked for many years, thanks for replying you've given me hope!

Go for it ! You’ll be great x

Isthiscorrect · 13/09/2023 17:34

Sounds great and you sound the can do person they need. Just don't over commit. Our school
Had 1100 students and our lovely repo lady wouldn't have had time to replenish anything in the staff room. She was flat out all the time.
And when you get the job get some snake plants on the shelves to help with the chemicals. Ensure pens and scissors are tied to the desk. Keep scrap paper for notes to go with requests. Everyone needs scrap paper. Boxes someone in school will need them for something. Make sure you know how toner works so you don't cover yourself.
It's a busy job but you meet everyone. Firm but fair with some flexibility.
Fingers crossed.

General assistant sounds like dogsbody to me, admittedly I don't work in a school.

Sahara123 · 13/09/2023 18:22

Well you could look at it like that if you really want to @cocksstrideintheevening or you could do the job with good grace and a cheery disposition and earn the respect and affection I have from my colleagues who have supported me through a very difficult time lately!

cocksstrideintheevening · 13/09/2023 18:30

I didn't mean it like that sorry, more that you are open to do everything for presumably not a huge salary and will be run ragged!

Hopingforno2in2023 · 13/09/2023 18:32

I covered reprographics for maternity leave and it was my favourite ever job. Am an introvert and I got to be in my own room which was rarely visited listening to my audio books while I ran the printer and laminator etc. miss that job so much

sunshine1201 · 13/09/2023 18:44

You'll be a key part of the school. Plus it's a great opportunity to in the future perhaps take on another role in a school.
Our repro person is highly regarded and her role has changed over thet years so that repro is a part time role for with others doing in on some days whilst she covers reception and looks after the school marketing.
For interview you need to be very aware of safeguarding and GDPR.
There's never a dull moment in a school and you will need a sense of humour!Grin

We have so much love for the repro person!Smile

Sahara123 · 13/09/2023 18:49

No problem!
Yes it’s quite menial I suppose but very necessary to support teaching staff. And just occasionally I feel that I’ve really helped a pupil have a better day. First aid isn’t often about medical stuff, I remember a girl who had a lot of self harm scars on her arms, if she was having a bad day she’d come to see me, I had cover up dressings and we’d have a bit of a chat and off she’d go. I met her mum a couple of years later who said her daughter remembered me fondly as I’d “ saved her life “. - not literally of course, but I felt pleased that I’d made a small difference

Thanks everyone x
