Outside kitchen drain blocked - any recommendations please

Our outside kitchen drain is blocked. I've tried putting bicarbonate of soda and vinegar down overnight and pouring hot water down first thing. Hasn't made a difference.

Can anyone recommend anything else we can put down there ourselves? I've seen Mr Muscle and Cillet Bang drain cleaners, not sure if they'll do the job.

I use Buster kitchen unblocker, sometimes I have to use two (one a day).

Does your bathroom drain into the same drain? When I lifted the grate I found a huge ball of hair which I got out with a little garden fork. Smelt horrendous! We tried boiling water and soda crystals before but didn't make a difference.

Lift the grate and put your hand in to find out the problem. Check you have not just poured acid etc down beforehand.

Might be totally blocked with fat. Sleeves up, dig it all out.

Caustic soda mixture may work. If not, get a set of drain rods (fairly inexpensive from a hardware type store) which will do the job. Or, as others suggest, get some heavy duty long rubber gloves on, lift the grate and have a rummage and try to shift the blockage. Good luck, it’s not the most fun job.

Clear out the rubbish in the drain with stout kitchen gloves. Put the kettle on to boil. Get a large jug or the kitchen basin and put in some white vinegar and soda crystals add a bit of washing up liquid. Pour the boiled kettle of water into the basin and immediately take to the drain and pour down.

Repeat the vinegar, soda crystals and washing up liquid plus boiled water down the sink in the kitchen. And repeat that process twice if necessary.

Look under your sink, there should be a u shaped pipe draining from the bottom of the sink, you need to unscrew this and manually clean it out.

Warning, its a mucky, awkward job of its like mine!

Thanks for your replies, will look into what I can get to put down it.

There's no build up in the drain part I can get to. I tend to clear residues from the edge with a trowel every few months and there's nothing there, nothing seems to be at the bottom.

The kitchen sink is the only thing that drains straight into this drain. We've opened up the two main drains (which are sewer and sink drain from ensuite and they're totally clear. I suspect our sink connects further down though.

I have the same problem with an outside drain. I think it's a build up of sand from the block paving. I've tried sticking my arm down wearing a bin bag and the drain rods. My next attempt will be with a power washer directed down the drain
