“Can I breastfeed in it” groups

Currently breastfeeding my son and I heard about this Facebook group. Thought it sounded really very useful and I’ve joined. All good.

Has anyone else here joined?

I was just curious really on a couple of points and wondered what others think.

primarily, it says in the group’s rules that it’s purpose is to exchange ideas on breastfeeding-friendly clothing and therefore “OUOD” (one up one down) solutions should not be shared as this “negates the group’s purpose”.

if you think that the OUOD method distracts from the purpose of this sort of group could you explain why?

it’s just curiousity and confusion really. I don’t want to be a trouble maker or criticise the group so I thought I’d come here anonymously to try to understand.

TIA X

I think they’re intended to show creative ways to BF in items of clothes that people might not have considered. Ie wrap dresses, button up tops etc that aren’t actually marketed as BF friendly.

but I’m on one of those groups and it seems to be a lot of women wearing quite average clothes, posing in their gardens and posting 5 different photos of the same awful outfit

Thank @ShirleyPhallus , yes that makes sense I suppose.
I should add though, coverup items are also banned as well as the OUOD suggestions so it seemed a little like it was intended to promote ‘no shame’ feeding.

I agree though, that many of the posts are basically the same and there’s not much inspiration in terms of variety in clothing.

Theres also quite frequent posts about feeding in bikini tops. This is bizarre to me as there’s nothing complicated about feeding while wearing a bikini. 99% of bikini tops allow for very easy access, surely…?!

Finally, I can’t stand the acronym FOO for “flop one out”. Makes me cringe.

OUOD only works with certain tops and it’s nice if you can match the vest. So I can’t see why that would be banned when shirts that unbutton wouldn’t be banned as let’s face it that’s an easier option.
I’m totally shameless when it comes to bf but I don’t like getting a cold tummy when I’m feeding outside so I love ouod.

I agree that it doesn't really seem worth anyone banning posts about OUOD but you can do that with literally any top with a vest underneath so I can also see that it doesn't seem like a particularly useful option to be sharing on the group.

"I can pull up this t-shirt...and this t-shirt... and this t-shirt..." isn't really helpful and would just clog up a busy group.

JollyJellyCat · 12/09/2023 21:00

I joined and left. I couldn't have fed in most of the things modelled. They must either all be contortionists or have very long thin boobs. . .

LolaSmiles · 12/09/2023 21:03

The logic to not allowing OUOD posts is because it's not helpful to have a group full of posts saying "I pulled this top up and my vest down".

I'd have thought you can breastfeed in pretty much anything except certain types of dresses. I've breastfed for almost 4 years in total and mostly just lifted up my top. Why do they feel they need to apply quite so much science to it?
