Can council departments trace address using name?

( Please note I have posted this in property but also posting here for traffic )

Not wanting to give too many details, but basically I spoke to someone from the Planning Department but not about a Planning Enquiry, she said if I wanted to I could open my enquiry as a "formal enquiry" and did I want to do this. My issue related to something which can be solved using indemnity insurance, so I said not at that time, and I would call back next week.

I did not give my property address - but at the time on my phone gave my first and second name! So folks using my name do we think she could trace my address? (do they have access to Council tax records?)

Work colleagues have advised that councils are up against it at the moment and most likely not - they only have time to look into actual enquiries and I shouldnt worry. What are your thoughts.....

Why would they want to trace you? There's nothing unreasonable about contacting a planning department.

Or is it that you were complaining about a neighbour and now don't want to take it forward but are worried they council might follow up on it anyway?

Not a lot makes sense in your OP.

I work for a council and don’t have access to personal information that other teams hold. We have to publish privacy notices on what data we hold and how we will use it.

Sorry, I know it's muddled, I do not want to be too outing. Basically its relating to a Restrictive Covenant which can be solved using Indemnity Insurance - and I don't want to have invalidated the Indemnity Insurance having contacted the council - but I did not give the property address, only my name.

they've got enough to do they've probably forgotten about you already..Anyway unless youve got a really unusual name there's probably someone else with the same name living in the area.

Planning isn’t interested in restrictive covenants (unless section 106… can’t recall if CiL is a land charge or not).

if the department you called is anything like ours right now, the person would have forgotten all about you within seconds of putting the phone down. In the nicest possible way planning is awful right now workloads high, resources low and many leaving the profession. Your phone call will be one of many that person would have taken today - really don’t worry about it!

Yes. We have a central database that all departments have access to with names/address/numbers of customers.
So if you’ve ever rung in before and given your details (for whatever reason) then the details will be on there.

They could also get the contact details from electoral services but would have to have a fairly good reason to.
