Do you need to let the DVLA know when you get an ASC and ADHD diagnosis?

Recently been diagnosed with both at 55.Clean license for 30 years as I’m a very cautious driver but did have to do a speed awareness course once( now hyper vigilant).

DVLA site is vague saying only let them know if it impacts driving.I don’t think it impacts my driving but say I had an accident? Would my undeclared diagnosis cause problems?

I doubt it. No-one would put themself forward to be tested if it was going to impact their driving licence.

You are the same careful driver you have been for the last 30 years. You haven't changed so there isn't anything to report.

I'd imagine it would be if your ADHD med side effects made you drowsy, dizzy or something that would effect ability to drive.

If you've driven for 30yrs without medication being needed to improve focus etc to be able to drive safely then an accidents isn't likey to be due to the ADHD/ASD you were born with.

Yes that is what I’m thinking. My clean license surely indicates it doesn’t impact it although the speed awareness course( which was a genuine mistake) could be argued was an indicator? It’s just the worry re what would happen if if I’d have an accident , could it be blamed?

Also I’m guessing we need to let our insurance company know. Will it go up a lot?

I’m not sure I want to take medication for the adhd. Too scared.

So as it's not having an effect on driving you don't need to declare it.

I'm a worrier and find it hard taking new medications but with titration they start you off at low dose and gradually increase while being monitored regularly for BP, HR, BMI and any side effects.
Overall the side effects I had were more bearable than expected and mainly wore off as adjusted. Current one elvanse seems to suit me well, it's improved focus but main benefits to me is feeling less exhausted all the time, mood is more stable and calmer probably as less thoughts racing round head constantly. Also stopped binge eating in evenings, craving sweat stuff and needing to drink gallons of tea a day.

Stimulants meds are used as first line of treatment as proven to work better for majority, there are also non-stimulant options atomoxitine and guanfacine.
