Is it common to never have grown under arm hair?

So I am in my 40s and I just never grew any under arm hair at puberty like most people, I've never had to shave which I guess is a bonus. I remember mentioning it at university to some friends and everyone was like eww what a freak!

I am not concerned about it as such, I never mentioned it to a doctor, I don't have much body hair anywhere on my body and I think I take after my father in that regard as he is also not at all hairy, very little under arm hair, none on his chest but he can grow a beard.

As far as I know I am 100% white but an ancestry test I had a tiny amount of east asian dna which seems unlikely and is probably just noise but who knows, people often think I have Indigenous ancestry (Canada) but I am 100% of British / Irish origin born in the UK as well as both parents being either British or Irish.

So I would like to know is it quite common never to grow any under arm hair or am I indeed a freak?

I'm the same. Never had any armpit hair. From memory both my parents did. We can be freaks together!

Blimeor · 11/09/2023 12:57

My grandmother never did.

Nothing wrong with that, I am jealous as I have to shave my armpits daily as I don’t like the feel of prickles against my arm! But I must admit I’ve never heard of people not ever getting any armpit hair, interesting!

🙋🏻‍♀️ me neither!

ditalini · 11/09/2023 13:03

No, it's not common but neither is it odd. Lucky, I would say.

Red heads tend to be very fair and grow less bodily hair, my mother was very fair skinned and had virtually none, I'm much darker in complexion but still seem to have a bit of the gene, very sparse under arm hair.

I’m very dark. I have no body hair apart from very sparse eyelashes. I have a full head of thick, dark, wavy hair. I’m told it’s a form of alopecia. As I’ve had bald patches on my head in the past, I’m inclined to go with this diagnosis.

I have no armpit hair, very little leg hair. I do have a bush that needs topiary...

I've never questioned it, am just glad I don't have more to take care of. My daughters seem to be going the same way,

hamfat · 11/09/2023 16:52

Interesting, so not that common but not rare! Interesting about the redheads as we do have red heads on both sides of the family but my colouring is quite dark.

@Gilead that is also interesting. I haven't experienced any hair loss on my head and I do have regular lashes but my brows are very flat, not thin width wise but not full at all. I don't really have any other body hair so perhaps?

What little armpit hair I had disappeared at menopause.

Oldraver · 11/09/2023 17:34

I only have a few barely noticeable wisps. I couldn't of done with shaving so quite glad

Lilibert456 · 11/09/2023 17:55

Never had any underarm hair
Consider it a bonus.

Xanadu58 · 11/09/2023 18:00

My mum never has or any leg hair .

jamdan21 · 11/09/2023 19:17

I don't have armpit hair neither.

JessicaPeach · 11/09/2023 19:36

I have very little, when I used to have regular waxing they never used to charge me for my armpits because there was hardly anything there!
