How to politely decline a meal?

Mother in law is making a meal tonight for everyone, I'm anxious as the pork is being left to defrost in the hot sun and I'm scared of getting sick, I'm also pregnant and this is making me super cautious. I'm not sure what to do

No way would I eat this just say you feel ill and have some dry toast.

Be honest - tell her that meat should be left to defrost no higher than room temperature, and she is risking food poisoning which might be an acceptable risk to some, but not to you, especially as you're pregnant.

"Yes a giant joint of pork in the sun^"
No no no no way would I eat that! 😩^

I did go off meat when pregnant and I still don't eat poultry or pork so its a perfect excuse. Defrosting a joint of pork outside in 30C is insanity though, my unashamedly carnivorous pork loving DP wouldn't touch it in those circumstances. Your MIL must be bonkers.

OMG I wouldn't be keen on eating that! But then if it had been put in a slow cooker it would be in heat for many hours so I'm not sure if it's logical not to want to eat it.

I always defrost my meat in a North facing room rather than my South facing kitchen.

Just ask for veggies and no meat. Say that meat is upsetting your stomach at the moment.

I get paranoid about meat sometimes and I’m not even pregnant!
