I’d love for posters to share their experiences of how they became wealthy, especially if they were not from a wealthy background.
I am struggling with the everyday cost of living and trying to make a plan of how to improve.
My goal would be well off enough to own my own home, help my DD out with driving lessons and a car and with a deposit so she can buy her own home.
I have always been a single parent and I initially just got a job that I could fit around that.
I wanted to make a change but didn’t have any decent qualifications so I went to college PT to do my GCSE’s, then I did a PT access course and then eventually university.
I was working, studying and a single parent with no help from family or the dad and so it was mentally and physically difficult and also I was a lot worse off financially but I thought it would be worth it to give my DD a better life.
I eventually qualified as a teacher and thought I’d finally made it and that life would be better now.
I didn’t actually realise how many hours of overtime I would have to put in (especially on £24-26k) and I found it challenging juggling being a teacher and a single parent, especially when we had parents evening and meetings which went onto 8pm etc.
My childminder then stopped working and I had to leave teaching and do shop work as it was the only job available which would fit in with after school care hours.
I’m now thinking ahead for the future and thinking about whether to eventually go back into teaching as the starting salary is going to be £30k or do I do an online masters in something different and get a different career or start a business but I’m not sure what.
It seems whatever I do I will still not be financially very well off.
My entire family are not well off (we all grew up on council estates, I’m the only one who’s ever been to uni or did any form of FE etc and so they cannot give me advice).
So if anyone has any tips or advice which they would like to share I would be very grateful and hopefully it will also help other posters too.
