Do your kids have a proper body and hair wash after their swimming lesson?

Mine do because we tend to go straight out after instead of going home. The chlorine is terrible for their hair, and I figure they might as well have a quick wash while they're at it. Whole thing takes about 5 mins but I notice the vast majority just do a quick rinse off. Am I breaking some post swim shower etiquette or am I just the odd one out?

I can't stand the changing rooms at the local pool. Water swilling around everywhere. Dirty footprints. Bits of hair, plasters and Christ knows what else. 🤢

I take a loose fitting outfit and crocs for the kids, dry them and dress them and get the hell out of there as quickly as possible Grin

We always go straight home and have a proper wash in a clean shower and bung all the wet stuff in a hot wash.

I'm don't enjoy swimming lessons, or swimming, unless somewhere lovely and warm abroad 😂

Oh loads of MNers seem to be terrified of “unwashed bums” in public - it’s either windup, trolling with a fetish, or their own personal issue. The rest of us just go about our business, comfortable with the fact that we exist among other humans and not obsessing about the state of their bums (unless we gave birth to them within the last few years Grin)

What are you talking about? The whole point of putting chlorine in the water is to prevent bacteria etc. it’s really not as filthy as you’re making out.

I also don’t understand this obsession with washing off the chlorine like it’s going to do untold damage to hair and skin. My daughter swims weekly and she just has a rinse when she gets out of the pool. We might not wash her hair with shampoo for days after. She has lovely hair in very good condition. I’ve seen zero evidence that the chlorine is doing it any harm.

Well, it stinks in my opinion.

It may depend on the pool's procedures but where DD swam until she was 12, they used so much chlorine, it was impossible to not smell her for miles and the car needed airing.

God yeah the smell from some swimming pools, its horrid. Its not so bad at my local pool, I think they must use less chlorine or something because it doesn't have the same strong smell that hits you the moment you walk in the building like the pools I was used to growing up. But they make you shower properly before swimming (and as some posters will be pleased to know, with helpful pictures informing you that you need to wash your bum before you go in the pool Grin) so maybe that lessens the need for so much chlorine.

Full shower and hair wash for us, but we have private 121 lessons in the gym/spa of a decent hotel so proper shower cubicles and there are always cubicles free. It’s not always pristine clean I admit, but I make them wear sliders and they have their full swimsuit off so get a proper clean. They have lessons at the same time and I just find it so much more convenient to shower them then …bathtime at home always felt a bit of a chore but as part of the swimming routine it’s much easier (because they love swimming) and I don’t have to wash their hair at home. The lessons however cost an arm and a leg but the convenience is worth it.

There are some really strange responses on this thread. I have an A level in chemistry and still choose to wash my daughter’s long, blonde, fine hair after swimming, otherwise it’s like straw.

Dc swims 4/5 times per week. None of the kids shower at pool. Dry robe and flip flops in and home.

I always give ds, 6, a proper shower after swimming. Shampoo, full bodywash. It takes a couple of minutes extra.

I can't see the logic in just rinsing them with water meaning you have to bath or shower them again at home, what a faff!

This was always my logic! A few mins extra at the pool while they are already wet, instead of an extra job when they get home and have to get wet again! Mine used to go home in their pj's if they had an evening swim.
