Good Morning Mumsnet! What's everyone up to today?

I've been up about half an hour & am just finishing my first cuppa, in my spot in the kitchen. I've got the window flung open, and can hear lots of birds this morning but it's very quiet other than them.

I was going to make bacon sarnys for breakfast but so far there's no movement from anyone else so we'll see how long I last without brekky. I'm only standing at the cooker once!

Today's going to be another steady one here - finish tidying up after last night (mostly pots to wash), iron school shirts, and upload some things to Vinted. We're using the funds towards going to a different Christmas market and travel to Liverpool to see Taylor Swift next year. Depending on the time when that's done, either crochet or some more prop painting for me.

Dd2's done her homework already, she'll probably either spend the day with her nose in a book, or chatting & Minecrafting with her friend in the Netherlands. Dd1 has some law A-Level work to do so I'll remind her once & leave her to it. They're both off for a walk to little Asda for a small top up shop.

Pork for tea tonight, with roasties and veg. Probably Yorkshire puds too 😋 . Followed by some sort of treat from the shop but not sure what that will be yet - sure they'll pick well!

I'm going to pinch another posters Self Care Sunday idea for tonight & have a proper scrubby shower, followed by some diy pampering, and then a fairly early night 😊

What about all of you? 🙂

@decafflatteplease my Mum had a similar Friday night ritual, to wash the week away! Lovely idea 💡

WhatWouldHopperDo · 10/09/2023 10:38

Morning @lucysmam I’ve only been up half an hour or so. Terrible nights sleep.

This morning we are doing some cleaning and clearing in various rooms as we are having new windows and work starts tomorrow.

It’s my Ddad’s Birthday so we are going to Mum and Dad’s for afternoon tea. I’ve got to make some egg sandwiches at some point.

Adult DD is coming with us by but DS is working 2-10.

Probably boring Jacket potatoes for
dinner. Although there is a food festival on
in town today. If it’s still open when we come back from Mum and Dad’s I’m tempted to stop off there instead! We went yesterday and there were so many amazing choices!!

Dontcallmescarface · 10/09/2023 10:46

Absolutely nothing today. Was up at 4am as we were dog-sitting for FiL. He was very unsettled (dog, not FiL), due to the heat I think as usually he's asleep by 9pm and doesn't stir all night. Me and DP look like a couple of extras from "Shaun of the Dead" at the moment, so we've vowed to do sod all today, plus it's raining so can't even have a nap in the garden.

Susiesue61 · 10/09/2023 10:54

Still in bed with coffee! Back to work after 2 weeks off tomorrow and we have 4 family birthdays in the next 10 days so need to get the final bits for those 😬 DS2 is at work before he goes to uni a week on Tuesday, DD has cricket which may be rained off

ThreeRingCircus · 10/09/2023 10:58

Morning everyone. We're having a quiet morning. I've had a coffee and DDs have eaten fruit and yoghurt. They have done their reading for school and I've done a load of washing and it's drying on the line outside now.

They're now playing a board game with DH and I'm about to make eggs on toast for an early lunch/brunch. Later we're popping round to a friend's house for a couple of hours.

Pizza for dinner tonight and we're going to watch the new Little Mermaid on Disney+

43ontherocksporfavor · 10/09/2023 10:59

Just chilling after a family Christening yesterday with lots of 🥂 so just on my second coffee to recover .No ovens will be switched on today as I’m sooo hot. DH has gone to Aldi for the food shop and he’s going to get some lots of mezze / tapas things so we can just have that later with dips and pita and salad.

peanutcrumble · 10/09/2023 10:59

I've been up since 9am which is the first lay in I've had since 14th may 🤦🏻‍♀️ I've fed all 5 dogs and let them out and now their all in their beds asleep. Debating what to do with my girls today 6 & 9 it's going to be super hot today (already 27) I don't wanna go out in the heat but at the same time don't wanna be stuck in doors especially as this weathers only here today and tomorrow. Might take them to the splash park with a picnic.

ssd · 10/09/2023 11:07

Good morning @lucysmam and everyone else here

I've had tea and toast, currently contemplating a latte ,to watch with Alan Titchmarsh, i bloody love his weekend morning programme. Dh having breakfast sitting at the table, i never sit at the table Blush

Quiet house here today, hopefully go a run to somewhere nice, have a walk and get a chippy tea.

Not so hot here now thank god.

dullandgrey · 10/09/2023 11:11

I had a lie in whilst DH got up with DS and got him sorted for breakfast. Then he went for a run so I cooked lunch ready to be reheated for later for him as me and DS are off to mums later as we haven't been over in two weeks which is unusual for us! Will probably have lunch there and back for maybe a short nap for DS (and me as currently pregnant and very tired lol) after nap, I might take DS to the park to see the boats and ducks. DH will stay home and relax and watch Netflix, ready for a busy week ahead at work. Unless he decides he wants to come with us. Possibly lunch left overs for dinner or we will order in. Not decided.

TotalOverhaul · 10/09/2023 11:11

Morning everyone. I love these threads.

@lucysmam I really like your idea of putting Vinted money towards a specific treat. You've inspired me to do the same.

DH left this morning to visit elderly rellies. DS got back from a uni trip abroad last night and is shattered so recuperating in bed. I am having coffee and trying to make myself go shopping before it gets too hot. DH has the car so it's a 40 minute walk to the supermarket and is only going to get hotter...

DS is veggie so I am making penne all arrabbiata for dinner tonight, as we both love it.

NonMiDispiace · 10/09/2023 11:12

Good morning lucysmam et al, it’s a quiet morning here.
I have made banana bread, filled the dishwasher twice, tidied around downstairs, paid my car tax online, written an anniversary card for DS and DDIL and sent it off , also sent off old unused stamps for replacement. Not bad so far!
We’ve had some rain, it’s a little cooler but very muggy still.
Enjoyed crumpets and coffee just now, probably won’t want anything for lunch.
Sausages and mash with baked beans for dinner, I cba to faff around with a roast 🫤
I will get on with a crocheted throw I started yesterday while listening to a podcast.

lucysmam · 10/09/2023 11:15

@TotalOverhaul I put off listing anything for ages. The specific things to use the funds for seems to have been the motivation needed to actually do it!

Good morning @lucysmam, what a lovely Sunday for you this week!

I also do self care Sunday, and always have a nice 'everything' bath, with a cup of tea and a face mask. That'll be after dinner though. For now, everyone is awake and we've had bacon bagels for breakfast. Our bed has been stripped and the bedding is in the mahine, I'll be stripping DS2's shortly. DS1 can do his own and DDs can wait another week thankfully. Will polish & hoover in fits and starts later on to avoid sweating so much we all drown.

DS1 had some friends sleep over last night, so we've got the windows wide open and a scented candle lit to refresh the stink that three teenage boys in a sealed room has left downstairs! Grin He's now, reluctantly, doing some homework. Y11 is not his favourite already!

DH is off to golf for the afternoon after lunch. DS2 is trying to forage for food already, and DD is tagging along. She has homework to do after lunch time too. Quiet day at home for most of us overall, the weather has taken it out of us all. We're not summer people.

We're having steak and cheese sandwiches for dinner tonight, with onion rings and corn on the cob.

riotlady · 10/09/2023 11:18

Morning :) been up since 7 with the kids but they’ve been content with a lazy pottering morning- I’ve put some washing on, DD has played with her polly pockets and watched her iPad, and DS is a baby so he has just pooped and slept really!

DH is currently packing us up a picnic and we’re going to head off to a nearby nature reserve for a walk and probably an ice cream from the cafe at the end.

Noodles for tea and will be watching Only Murders in the Building once DD is in bed!

maddiemookins16mum · 10/09/2023 11:25

Up since 7am as wanted to enjoy some peace in the garden before it got too hot.
DH is working.
DMIL has gone to church.
I’ve pottered and washed the floors and am currently in the cool, for now, lounge on MN.
We are off on holiday on Friday (Croatia for 2 weeks, 2 different locations) so I’m doing my ‘lists’ later.
We have some friends coming round this evening for dinner, hoping to eat outside and we’re having pan fried salmon with salads and new potatoes.
I’m planning a Siesta this afternoon as I’ve gone 6 nights now with disturbed sleep.

galaxywipple · 10/09/2023 11:28

Can I join in please? I love these threads.

I've been up since about 8 as my youngest (7) came in to ask if I would make pancakes for breakfast. I was happily snoozing away after a night tossing and turning in the heat but never mind.

I've had a lovely video call with family in Australia, made the pancakes (and had scrambled eggs on rye toast myself as Operation Fit 4 Forty is underway). DH and both DC have popped to PIL to drop the carpet cleaner off, I've prepped for Sunday roast and painted my nails and i am now off to the gym (where I will inevitably chip my nail varnish).

Having roast for lunch instead of tea as the rugby is on at 4.45 (Scotland v South Africa) which we will watch as a family. Tea will be picky bits at half time.

Hoping the sun lasts so we can go in the garden or maybe for a walk with the dog the afternoon.

DC will be in bed early tonight as school tomorrow, and I might go up early with my kindle and leave DH to his sky sports.

Love Sundays!

Boujibroke · 10/09/2023 12:08

Love this thread. Thank you @lucysmam

Wishing everyone a lovely Sunday Grin

dh is pottering about and is popping out for work later.

Not seen dd12 yet. Going to ask her if she wants to have a pj, movie, spa at home day with me today. She will probably re arrange for another day and go out with friends.

If dd rain checks then, I am going to stay in my pjs and do some batch cooking, Potter about. I forgot about vinted you have inspired me to post some bits on it today for Christmas funds.

Dinner tonight will be homemade soup with homemade crusty rolls. Me and dh have started watching Mr Selfridge will watch a few episodes later.

Definitely a re charge the batteries, self care day for me.

Oh forgot about my little fluff ball dog Blush will take him out for a walk at some point. We are back to grey and rain again.

Peridot1 · 10/09/2023 12:21

Hello @lucysmam and everyone.

Been a pottering about morning so far for me. Had a lovely long chat with my best friend in Sydney earlier. I will never not appreciate being able to call over the internet for free!

Had tea and toast for breakfast as it’s Sunday. Back on healthy breakfast of Greek yoghurt and berries tomorrow.

Washed DS’s king size duvet and hung it out on the line. Had to take it back in as it’s threatening to rain. It’s now hanging over two airers in the hall. Was hoping the rain would pass us by. I’m gutted it’s likely to rain today as was hoping for a last day sitting in the garden in the sun.

Also washed his bedding and one of his pillows is currently being washed.

I also emptied the dishwasher and put the sink drainer and other bits in for a wash. Zero effort but makes me feel virtuous!

I did a bit of a self care shower yesterday morning with a mini pedicure, hair and face mask etc. I may have a soak in the bath tonight and leave DH to watch rugby.

Dinner is steak and salad and some type of potatoes. Might do air fryer chips. And there will be wine.

Justonedayatatime11 · 10/09/2023 12:55

Morning @lucysmam. Well, afternoon.
Lazy(ish) day at home today. DD has a friend over and they're playing happily in the garden making a home for the grasshoppers Hmm. I'm sitting on the sofa with a cold drink and a sleepy kitten. Will do burgers and sausages for a late lunch this afternoon and then have a ton of gluten free baking to do later. Also have tons to upload to Vinted but lacking the motivation!

TotalOverhaul · 10/09/2023 13:37

@TotalOverhaul I put off listing anything for ages. The specific things to use the funds for seems to have been the motivation needed to actually do it!

It is a brilliant motivation to get stuff listed. I might sort some things out this afternoon.

Stressybetty · 10/09/2023 13:56

After waiting for a run of dry weather, me and DH have spent the last few days in sweltering heat doing second coat of paint and sealant on patio and paths, repairing tarmac drive and paths with macadam and concrete and finally painting with tarmaseal which takes 2-4 hours to dry. All the time watching the weather! Minutes after finishing first coat yesterday light rain. Today more rain. Currently watching rain mixed with dye making its way down the drive onto the pavement. Not happy! Our fault as we had planned to finish Friday but all took longer.

cardibach · 10/09/2023 18:51

Made it to the airport hotel for my very early flight tomorrow. In the bar with a G&T as I refuse to be limited by the fact o travel alone.

lucysmam · 10/09/2023 19:29

@cardibach have a safe flight!

I've just sat down with a face mask on and dd2's crochet request, to finish off its main part. Then I'll do some beading on part of my Eras tour outfit I think.
