Standing outside an airbnb and host not responding

Me and my partner are doing a marathon tomorrow. We booked an airbnb near the event months ago and had this confirmed with messages from the host, address, phone number etc.

It is a key safe entry so this morning I messaged the host to ask for the code and heard nothing.

We arrived at 3pm by train, messaged the host again, knocked on the door, spoke to the neighbours, phoned the host and left messages, messaged airbnb who are trying to get in touch with the host. We have been standing around and sitting in a local pub for nearly 3 hours now in this heat.

Any ideas??

The reviews are good and plentiful. Most are recent and look legit.

Are the check in instructions clear? I have step by step instructions, with photos, on my check in bit but still more than one guests haven't followed them properly. I have no idea how!

I've had friends check they are clear (and they really are) but nope, I've still had messages about check in questions after booking. I haven't used Airbnb as a guest for ages so I'm not sure how clear they are when booking iyswim.

Sounds like a lesson to be learnt....just don't use Air BnB.
Too many unreliable amateur renters on there out to make a few bucks. Clueless.
Stick to tried and tested places who do it properly.

This has happened to us twice with Airbnb- in countries where we didn't speak the language. Totally ruined our stay and now will not stay in any without someone on site.
