Cost of food shop per week

What do you think would be a reasonable amount of money to spend on grocery shop per week? We are two adults and 3 young children. 2 of the children have school meals. We all have breakfast at home, dh takes a packed lunch and toddler and I have lunch at home. Cooked meal every evening. I really need to save money and food shopping is the obvious place I could cut back. I thought I would set myself a weekly limit and to try to stick to that but I'm not sure what would be reasonable . Last week I spend £170 which feels like a huge amount. It did include washing powder and there's still a joint of meat in the freezer to use.

I’m around £100 a week for one adult and two kids, includes packed lunches. I meal plan and batch cook to keep food waste down. If I spent more much of it would end up in the bin, I can’t see how a weekly food shop for 3/4 people gets to £200 without a lot of waste - we eat well but not extravagantly, if I spend £200 my freezer is pretty full for the next couple of weeks.

About £100, 2 adults and 2 children. The 3 year old has lunch and tea at nursery but the 7 year old has packed lunches.

I think mine averages about £110/20. One adult and two teenagers. They used have lunches at school but given the quality has gone downhill I'm now adding an extra £20 for all of us. It's really hard. I was remembering yesterday how I could feed myself and ex-partner for £50 a week easily!

I budget £200/week for 2 adults and 2 teens. That includes all toiletries, dog food, cleaning stuff, etc. That’s all meals including packed lunches though we have takeaway once a week. I’ve got one vegetarian, one restricted eater, and 2 ‘normal eaters’ so I think that pushes our costs up. Not so long ago (12-18 months) that weekly budget was £150.

I now do one or two Aldi shops per month and get the branded/preferred products weekly from Asda or Morrisons (Asda is cheaper as I’ve started to notice)

@CissOff I just search laundry products on amazon whenever I'm nearing the time to need more.
Then I filter deals only
Bulk
Price low to high

And start looking - sometimes its all v expensive then the next day its a great deal.
I never really buy the same thing twice, just what's cheapest or nearly there. I (gasp, kick me out MN) like a bit of fragrance so will spend slightly more to get one I like or go non fragrance to avoid ones I don't.

Amazon's own - fresco are quite good, definitely get things clean - all the products I've tried have been fine inc loo roll.
But it's a bit like lidl stuff and the way amazon works you can often get more of the dog brand toilet roll (I cant remember the name i can see dulux and durex and its not those lol) for a lower price so why would you buy the lower quality stuff.

So it's mainly just taking the time to search for 5 or 10 mins for a few days and take things in and out of your basket.

I think that's a lot for 2 adults, and 3 children. Although are you buying nappies for the toddler.

And having said that prices really seemed to shop up in the last month. I've noticed that things have gone from say £1 to £1.25.

I shop mostly at Asda and spend about £100 for 3 adults and 2 teenagers, no alcohol. I think I can keep the cost at the lower as I make sure I have good stock of what we eat on a regular basis. So I only buy what we need on a weekly basis to cover any odd items we are using the last item, and fruit and veg. And I make 99% of all our meals.

I buy meat every two or three months from Tesco or Costco.

I would on Amazon for baulk cleaning products for example Finish dishwasher tablet are cheaper on Amazon then most supermarkets.

I spend £70-90 a week for 2 adults and 2 children. We all have breakfast and dinner here + lunch at weekends. Husband and kids eat lunch out the house. Oh - we are vegetarian.

The kids eat what we eat - we do have a lot of pulses and beans and I shop at Aldi.

I should add we get loo roll from Who gives a crap and washing machine/dishwasher stuff etc from Smol which is separate.

Example of this week’s meals:

Chickpea curry and rice
Creamy red pepper tagliatelle with a salad
Ratatouille on bulgar wheat with halloumi
Pizza night
Tofu bowls - tofu, sushi rice, kale, mango, avocado and cucumber in a miso dressing
Black bean enchiladas with a salad
Mac and cheese

There is no way I could do it for under £100 if we ate meat.
