Can you give party invitations to the teacher ?

Is this the done thing ? Disclaimer, I am a teacher, but at 11-18 school. So part of me feels this is very much not the teacher's job.

My Ds just started school. His birthday is in a couple of weeks and I want to invite the entire class. I work full time so he is at breakfast club from 7.30 and stays until 5.30, so I won't see parents at the classroom for drop off.

Is it ok to give a pile of party invitations for her class to the teacher and ask her to put them in bags? Or if not, how do people do it ?

I can't help, but I thought you meant give the teacher an invite to the party 🤣. Absolutely not, it cracked me up!

wafflingworrier · 08/09/2023 20:40

I would do that but also Whattsapp ppl, as you can't guarantee paper invites make it home even if handed out by the teacher.
If you don't know ppls numbers you can ask those you do know to forward to you.

Schools discourage it but it still happens.

Ours would put invitations to the whole class into bookbags.

But would not hand out any other invitations.

Best bet is to ask if they will, but be prepared that the answer might be "no"

Dropthedonkey · 08/09/2023 20:42

In my school, they won't do this. The children hand them out in the playground before school, mostly

Bax765 · 08/09/2023 20:44

They do at my school.

Whu · 08/09/2023 20:45

I also opened this thread hoping that you were considering inviting the teacher to a party Grin.

jumperoozles · 08/09/2023 20:45

In my school whole class are fine to give to teacher to give out. They don’t like to give out invites if it’s just a few.

Brilliantlydone · 08/09/2023 20:46

Haha! No, probably won't make the teacher come.

This would be fine at my school

IhearyouClemFandango · 08/09/2023 20:46

If a whole class, ours would do it.

Frankcat19 · 08/09/2023 20:46

Year one teacher here. Yes I put party invitations into bookbags.

Switcher · 08/09/2023 20:47

That is what I did when mine started in reception, as the school refused to even give the first names of the children - so I had to give the teacher 30 blank invitations.

hoophoophooray · 08/09/2023 20:49

Ours would only do it if it was a whole class, or all of one sex.

That's what I thought when I read it 🤣 like why would she want the class teacher to be there too haha.

Brilliantlydone · 08/09/2023 20:52

Ok, so it's not taking the piss to ask
🤞

So did I 😂.

OP, as a teacher-I’m happy to give our invitations to the whole class. We don’t give out invitations to any other small groups of children though and tell parents to give them to whoever brings/collects them to school to give out.

Good policy.

Littlefish · 08/09/2023 20:55

My school will also only do it if everyone is invited.

CantThinkOfANewUsernameAgain · 08/09/2023 20:57

Our school encourage it rather than kids trying to hand out at break time. Teacher just does them before pick up

Brilliantlydone · 08/09/2023 20:57

It's two classes in one large space - 60 in total. I'm just going to invite 30 (what possessed me to plan this).

Years ago invited my dds primary school teacher, she came, she was lovely - those were the days

cariadlet · 08/09/2023 21:03

I'm a primary school teacher and have actually been to a couple of parties for children in my class!

It was many years ago and I was invited because my dd was a toddler. I knew she would enjoy the parties so went along and took her with me.

cansu · 08/09/2023 21:06

You can't ask the school to do this if there are children who will not be invited.

No but I thought I would just invite his class of 30?
