Dog barking last night - neglect

Don’t want to put in AIBU.

So last night from say 11pm but then went on to 2am a dog (sounded small) was barking about 4 streets away. Tried RSPCA but got recorded message.

At first it was irritating but I thought no it’ll stop soon. Then I thought who leaves a dog outside on the hottest night of the year, who’s obviously distressed and hot? It did stop but poor creature. Sad

"Hate" is a bit strong (and overused when posters challenge an op). No one on the thread "hate"s the OP.

The might not understand the OPs (lack of) action, or be debating her intentions. But there is no hate.

No hate but some of them are/were the usual MN c*nts in my opinion anyway.

I’d expect it if I was on AIBU but not on chat. Maybe I should’ve said posted on the dog area here (Kennel something?).

The bar for neglect for the RSPCA to attend is high. Leaving a otherwise cared for dog outside barking isn't enough evidence for them to do anything.

Calling the RSPCA to say you can hear a dog barking for a couple of hours about 4 streets away was ridiculous - if you did genuinely care for the dogs wellbeing surely the first step would be you go and investigate/ask someone else to investigate/ask on the neighbourhood whatsapp at the time it was happening before expecting a charity to rock up and sort it out with no information.

It sounds like you were just hoping someone would sorted out the noise nuisance for you rather than any concern for the dog.

I’d love to have gone out at night but do you really think it’s safe for a single female driving or walking (involves a park) at gone midnight? The cars are a bit mad late at night. I don’t know the area where the dog lives that well either, I know of the streets but don’t know them well. Hence my calling RSPCA (I had no idea what they’d do) and WhatsApp.

Anyway all sorted now so hopefully it’s fine and more importantly that the dog is ok.

Not had a dog for a few years so no idea if it’s ok to leave them on patio decking in heat.

3 hours is a long time to tolerate barking, but it’s not too long to leave a dog. If it had been all night you would have definitely had a point, but in the dark how could the neighbour who looked over have seen a water bowl? My next door neighbour has lots of garden lights they put on at night, but there’s still no way I would be able to see if they had water bowls outside.

There are a few posts disagreeing with you but there is only one post on the thread attacking and name calling......🤔

It’s just a bit of a non issue based on the information you’ve given OP. Which is why I think some posters have given some prickly responses. They’re not being cunts, they’re just not being as polite as you’d like them to be.

The neighbour said there’s security lights in the garden where the dog was, which shine directly onto the decking patio area and he said he saw the dog bowl then as he was standing on a garden chair and could see over the fence that way. As to how he saw it was empty I don’t know unless he saw that when he looked over.

There’s no need for prickly responses or someone blatantly calling me a liar. That got my back up. Yes maybe it was a non issue but people have posted about less than this and it’s in Chat ffs!

Whenever I’ve dared to post other issues with closer neighbours, I’ve got ripped to pieces here. It’s like some parallel universe on MN where they all put up with noisy neighbours or don’t etc!

Anyway dog isn’t barking now so can assume owners weren’t neglecting it (prob just got separation anxiety) and WhatsApp stayed quiet on this. It’s not like we hound and tar and feather rowdy neighbours!

Theres a reason why I stick to replying to posts and staying on certain boards I think.

I think my name calling was justified but feel free to report it. And I’m not attacking I’m responding to those who were prickly with me.
