Raising £25 per month

Last January I started scouring car boots and charity shops for bargains to sell.
I'm a widow and on a low private pension and my state pension to live on.
My late husband (he killed himself) left me in lots of debt unknown until after.
I wanted to raise the money for my grandchildrens birthday presents.
And this Christmas presents.
Today I have finally sold enough to pay for Christmas and birthdays until next may.
It's been hard. Don't know why I'm posting but proud of myself.

Well done you!!!

Did you get proper debt advice after your DH death? It's unlikely you were responsible for debts not in your name etc.

Cookiemonstersnana15 · 07/09/2023 23:16

Yes I did for some of the debt. It was the mortgage was in joint names he was responsible for paying. He unknown to me took a holiday payment during covid and then didn't pay.
The first I knew was the bailiffs turning up I couldn't get hold of him.
Then the police turned up.
That was at the end of 2021.

Well done OP. I'm really inspired by that because I'm also looking at ways to raise money for gifts this year.

You've been through so much, yet you still look for ways to find solutions despite everything that's gone wrong. You're an inspiration ♥️ you should be so proud...

What a thing to cope with, on top of losing him 💐 You’ve worked really hard, you absolutely should be proud.

(That sounds so patronising. I promise the tone is not meant that way).

Thank you for your lovely comments.
I now live in a small bungalow. I have no debts.
Mortgage company were very very helpful.
But hardly any money.
But most of all I have a good family and good health.
What more do I need.

I have found some great bargains and some new friends.

Well done!

Have you checked whether you are entitled to pension credit? Did you have your income looked at when you were dealing with your debt? If not it's worth checking to see you aren't missing out. Apparently hundreds of thousands of people could be claiming pc who aren't. Well done for all you've sorted through such a hard time.

You are amazing and an absolute inspiration. Hope you manage a wee treat for yourself. Xx

Well done. See if your back account will let you 'save the change' where transactions are rounded up and the 'change' from £1 is put into a separate account. It quickly adds up and feels like free money!
