Which tutor agencies to trust?

A dull thread.....but......My daughter would like to do AS French alongside A levels. I'm struggling to find a local tutor.

When I Google local tutors it comes up with around 25 tutor agencies! How do I know which to choose? Is there one thats known to be reliable? If we're paying lots per week, we'd like to know it's well spent.

Thanks for any recommendations.

Go onto your local Facebook group or a class/school group if there is such a thing and ask there for recommendations

I have just started using MyTutor.
My son had his first session tonight after a 'get to know you' session a couple of weeks ago.
It's all done through the site so no personal info is shared which reassured me.

I am a tutor (though sciences, not French). I'd always chose an independent tutor rather than an agency. Agencies will usually only have inexperienced tutors on their books because they will be taking a significant cut of the tutor fees, so any well-established tutor wouldn't want to share their fee if they don't have to.

Ask for recommendations on your local Spotted Facebook page, ask teachers in your school of they know of anyone and get your DC to ask their friends at school. Many of my recommendations come from the kids themselves telling their friends they have a tutor and when the others in the class see their grades improving they want the same tutor!! Recommendations from students are worth their weight in gold because it means the student themselves is on-board with tuition and they like the sessions.

Otherwise, look beyond page 4 or so of Google on searches as most of the early pages will be covered with agencies that can afford website developers who can get their rankings higher than independent tutors.

Thanks all. I asked on Facebook but only 1 lady replied and she tutors English and science too which makes me think she's not a linguist...?

If you want tutors that are entirely independent and not having agencies take a large cut off their fee try searching First Tutors.

Free for tutors (unless they have a paid account) and all the fee goes to the tutor, not the agency.

Bonsoir,
I understand you posted your question a long while ago but I was wondering if you had found a tutor for your daughter.
I am a part-time French teacher at a highly reputable school and I also tutor children, teenagers, adults. I have experience in exams preparation including GCSE, IGCSE, A Level from a range of exam boards. I can also support with DELF qualifications.
I have excellent success rates and lots of recommendations.

Please do not hesitate to contact me.
