Recommend a still, sugar free drink

I mainly just drink still water but as I don’t drink tea or coffee I like to drink 2 cans of Coke Zero per day as a pick me up and just for a change of flavour. It’s not great for you but I don’t have any other vices. However, I’ve discovered that it’s causing awful bloating so am trying to cut it out.

Can anyone recommend a nice still drink that will feel like a treat to drink once or twice a day? Can’t contain sugar and I’m not keen on squash because it always feels a funny texture to drink somehow, like it’s too ‘thick’.

I make herbal iced teas often. So whatever tea you like, add hot water the night before in a pitcher and leave out on the side. I have it with lots of ice, sometimes fruit. I do add a bit of sugar often, but you don't have to.

It doesn't quit fit what you are after, as it is fizzy, but certainly much better for you than a coke zero - kombucha. I love it. It's very good for the gut and generally contains almost zero sugar and very low in calories.

The bottle green elderflower cordial is quite nice and you only need a small amount - it doesn't have a thick texture like Robinsons squash (I know what you mean about those!)

I don't know if bottle green do sugar free versions of their cordials though. I just get the sugary one because it's a treat anyway and I don't have it often.

But look into the 'posh' cordials rather than the bog standard - you might find one you like and it will probably still be cheaper than 2 cans of coke a day.

You could try adding some fruit to your water for a bit of flavour without that weird feeling of squash clinging to your teeth.

I consider Kefir a treat and it's good for you also. But does take a bit of getting used to. It does contain naturally occurring sugar.

Dash is carbonated but only very very slightly, it’s all natural and comes in cans you can chill in advance.

For work I take a bottle of (pre chilled in freezer) water with some slices of lemon or lime in or squirt some lemon juice in. Plain or spring, both taste better with the extra taste. Was a game changer for me as I used to buy flavoured water but then realised simple tap water and natural fruit is the way forward. A chilled can of coke is a nice treat though if you don't drink coffee. Xx

I drink gallons of Strawberry and Watermelon squash by Robinsons. Love the stuff.

Iced tea made with Skinny Food Company sugar free syrups. There are different flavours.

Probably a UPF though.

I've been drinking iced green lemon tea for years now. Lovely and refreshing, so easy to make. I just stick the tea bag in a bottle.

Cold brewed tea! Fruit teas work best but some green teas are lovely too

daffodilandtulip · 06/09/2023 18:08

I'm obsessed with cola too but I will accept a drink of Lidls apple hi juice squash or a nice elderflower cordial

morknmindi · 06/09/2023 18:47

Peach and raspberry squash is lovely in a glass with ice.

Some great suggestions, thank you everybody. I will work through them all - I think I’ll start by making some iced tea or iced herbal tea.
