"Free" will writing offers with charities etc? Anyone used these?

I have a very simple straight forward will, so am looking at free or cheap ways of getting my will written.
Various charities offer 'free' will writing services, I've just checked out the one with Earthwatch and it's basically a free template which is checked by a legal service after completion, with the option to donate to Earthwatch in it (easy to opt out if not wanted) but you have to sign up to a £10 yearly 'update' service with the legal service, the first year being free.
It looks like a decent cheap deal but I'm not sure.
Currently reading through Money saving expert info on wills, but has anyone done similar or have any other suggestions for free or cheap will writing?
Thanks

I went to a legal stationers in Chancery Lane and bought a blank will form. Filled it in and job done. I did the same for my late DF and his will went through unchallenged. Even if the will is "free", I wouldn't pay a tenner for a non-existent "update".

there is often a charity will month where solicitors will write a proper will (assuming a straight forward one) for you for a donation to a charity. Mine was done about 10 years back and I think it cost me a voluntary donation of £20

I used this company

I answered a series of questions online then had a 30 minute appointment via Zoom with a legal advisor (could be a solicitor but could be a will writer who has voluntary accreditation). She went through everything and explained things. Made sure I was aware of certain things to do with executors, residual beneficiaries, whether I had dependents etc etc. Then the will was sent to me after about a week.

If things are more complicated or you need more than 30 mins advice they charge extra but you do get a quote in advance if this is the case.

We've recently done one through Wood Green Animal Shelter. They have a list of solicitors to choose from, you make an appointment with the solicitor and they sort it all out with the charity. The only proviso is that you make a bequest of a nominal sum to the charity in your will.

The one you're looking at appears to be somewhat different from that.

I did Will Aid
the participating solicitor had a list of charities they preferred and I did donate but no one leaned on me to donate or to do a particular amount.

if it's still running, it fills up pretty quickly.

My husband and I used the MacMillan free will service. We left a donation in the will to the charity once we have both passed away. Our wills were straightforward and were prepared by a firm of solicitors, who checked we had executed them properly afterwards. (Just as well, since I had forgotten to date mine oops)
